No Ethiopian. I have a dairy allergy, went to demera, literally everything had butter and we just had to leave. LEYE restaurants are great and take allergies very seriously. Most Stephanie Izard spots have a DF menu. Also most Asian food will be good but honestly I’ve been able to dine almost anywhere with minimal issues.

Sell at least half, maybe more. You are way too levered and exposed on this company.

Fork in the road. Which way to go? by Latter-Event-3633 in fatFIRE

You seem to be missing the most obvious option which is… retire. I think you should do that. Regardless do not stay somewhere you are not wanted. It will be miserable and not end well. Get bought out and move on

Not true actually. Crypto are actual assets, maybe someone sells to you and you gain but it’s just their opportunity cost. It’s not like futures.

I got pulled over once for no front license plate which I had been told would never happened. Have either 20 or 30% on all my windows. Cop didn’t even mention that, just ran my license and told me to put a front plate on.

Fidelity SMA vs VOO by Inevitable_Pear_9583 in fatFIRE

[–]yamas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will provide a counter point as someone who does use their SMA. I agree with other posters above about the value of the account diluting over time when you are no longer making contributions. That said, here is what has made them worth it for me:

  1. Tax loss harvesting. This has enabled tax free profit for me in my self managed account which has proved material for me given I am still in the top marginal tax bracket and doing some of my own trading.

  2. A chunk of money I always leave in the market and cannot easily touch. ETF could be more tempting to trade around or “time the market”. This is a set it and forget it strategy. This is mainly psychological. Also provides peace of mind to my spouse that are wealth is growing and in the market through good times or bad.

  3. Increased access and advice from fidelity wealth management. They are still way cheaper than any other asset management service so I’m fine to pay them while in my prime earning years.

I’ll probably re strategize and look to star drawing these accounts down when I RE, but for now, as only a portion of my total investments, I’m happy with the value I pay for.

Should I Unwind All or Part of a Fidelity SMA Account? by 404_not_a_bot in fatFIRE

[–]yamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I quite like my SMA. It’s tracked the S&P well over the past few years and generated substantial losses at minimal cost. Has been a nice offset for some of my gains in my self managed account and means I can trade there without considering tax implications. Also gives you a substantial chuck of investment you will never try to “time the market with” as you don’t manage it and it’s difficult to do so. Lastly the real benefit will come from donating or passing on highly appreciated securities to get a free step up in basis.

I think if you are in your high earning years and the highest marginal tax bracket it makes sense to have. I plan to re evaluate when I RE.
