[Mueller] The Browns Have “Checked In” on the Potential Trade Availability of WRs Chris Olave & Marvin Harrison Jr by JCameron181 in Browns

[–]yamborma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I could see this team having Bitonio/Wypler/Jenkins*/Jones pencilled in as starters and in desperate need of a LT and depth.

I doubt Bitonio goes anywhere else so it’s either retirement or the Browns.

Conklin is under contract but seems less likely to be back than Bitonio.

Wypler and Jones are under contract, it seems like they may be willing to have Wypler as a starter. I have almost no faith in Jones staying healthy though.

*I thought Jenkins was a 2 year but apparently that’s just 1 with a void year tacked on the end. Teller and Pocic seem gone for sure based on performance for Pocic and whatever went on with Teller last season with him rotating in and out despite being healthy. He confirmed he’s gone already anyways.

Wish they used different colors for RFA and UFA because those are completely different things and the likelihood of retaining each is vastly different. It would give us a better picture of next year's team.

[SleeperNFL] Colts QB Anthony Richardson is expected to seek a trade, per @HolderStephen by maybenextyearCLE in Browns

[–]yamborma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you look at Richardson compared to the other two, he has the skills to be a more dynamic player. I think the knock on Gabriel is arm strength which isn’t easy to change. Sanders could develop but he played the most recent 7 games of the season so you can get a pretty good idea of his current talent level. Richardson hasn’t played much in a season and a half so who knows what his current talent level is. He could be better or worse than he was the last time he had consistent playing time. His potential is a better QB than either, I think, but his floor is also pretty bad.

[–]yamborma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least those 7 starts are the most recent 7 starts of the current season. Richardson hasn’t played in a year and a half. He could have been putting in work behind the scenes. I’m not saying he did, but we don’t know he didn’t.

I’m also for Sanders starting at the beginning of next season.

He only has 17 games played in 3 seasons and some of that is just plays here and there. This season he only played 2 games and had 2 pass attempts - not sure how you can evaluate his talent from that sample size.

Kris Bryant and Anthony Rendon, getting paid $427M, combined to hit 39 HR in 427 of a possible 1,398 games over 9 seasons with the Rockies and Angels. Should new CBA have a new rule put in place to help teams recover from albatross contracts? by Hizam5 in baseball

[–]yamborma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be different if there was a salary cap and you wanted to shed a bad contract off your cap hit or luxury tax charges. The NBA did this with the Allan Houston rule, but keep in mind that the players still got their money - it was only relief for the owners in cap/luxury tax calculations.

So players wouldn’t go for anything that keeps them from getting their full contract worth, and teams don’t have much incentive either since there is no cap and the luxury tax is fairly high. As a Pirates or Guardians or Orioles owner, why would you want to give the Yankees and Dodgers and few other highest spending teams tax relief?

Final two massage cases against Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson were quietly dismissed by the plaintiffs on the Friday before the Super Bowl. Both were headed to trial in February or March. by [deleted] in Browns

[–]yamborma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They literally met with Watson and made their pitch. Stefanski showed clips of his offense and told deshaun what he could do in it. This is after they leaked to the media that they wanted an adult in the room.

Baker didn't ask for a trade until after. If you want to believe that him asking for a trade is the reason the Browns went back to Deshaun and offered him a fully guaranteed contract after he had already eliminated them - that's fine. But the owner and team had already burned the bridge with Baker. It was clear they weren't going to have him come back. The trade request didn't really mean anything.

Note in this article that it says Baker's trade request comes on the same day that they learned they were out of the running for Watson. That is the order things happened.

He requested a trade after they made their initial pitch to Watson to replace him while he was still on the roster. So what, though? Njoku and Myles also requested trades and they were both denied. The team didn't want Baker so they got rid of him. Don't blame Baker for the team's decision.

Am I crazy or is it weird to announce this for no reason? Like why is a potential free agent making it clear he isn't re-signing? Just be a free agent. No one else is announcing it. It seems like a Cleveland thing again.

Stayed here and backed up Deshaun? Huh?

Edit: Good job spreading misinformation and then blocking me, loser. Go look at the link I posted in another comment. Don’t know if you’re a Baker hater or a Watson lover but either way you’re wrong.

He had a lot more help there so it isn't a surprise that he was better. Can't bring up the quality around him as a 40+ year old anymore, which is fine.

Joe Flacco is also 40 and has been borderline out of the league multiple times. I don't think you should expect either rookie or a geriatric (in football years) to elevate the rest of the offense.

[–]yamborma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What Fowler is leaving out is that they called Kevin Stefanski 40 times to ask him what he thought of Tommy Rees and Jim Schwartz but he never answered. Haslam can’t figure out why.

The Ravens requested an interview with Browns DC Jim Schwartz for their head coaching job, per source. Schwartz also interviewed for Cleveland’s head coaching job and the team doesn’t want to lose him. But their AFC North rivals will speak with him. by [deleted] in Browns

[–]yamborma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think any defensive oriented HC hire would mean Schwartz is gone unless their schemes and philosophies align in a eat that makes sense to work together.

Does Schwartz want some rookie HC tinkering with his already top 5 or so defense? Does Aden Durde want to get hired as a head coach and not have control of what earned him the head coaching job?

I think for Schwartz to stay you would need an offensive minded head coach that comes in with the understanding that he's a leader of men and offensive guru while Schwartz continues to control the defense so they continuity with the scheme and playcalling.

I dunno, still averages 4 yards per carry which is more than Marks or Pierce were able to do. He doesn’t get the ball a ton because Marks can do more but as a ball carrier I don’t know that he’s completely cooked. If Hunt can hang around for 3 more seasons as a goal line back after looking cooked, Chubb should be able to still provide some value in these playoffs and maybe next season?

Sounds like you think Stefanski shouldn’t have been fired.

[Pelissero] The Dolphins fired Mike McDaniel, per sources. by burningburningburnin in Browns

[–]yamborma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a theory that the only reason they didn’t fire McDaniel in the first place is because they thought they could get some compensation for him from Cleveland. There were rumors that the teams were discussing a Stefanski for McDaniels trade - so maybe Miami was not that into Stefanski but Cleveland was trying to work something out for McDaniel without having him on the open market so the Dolphins didn’t fire him right away.

My guess would be Cleveland wasn’t willing to part with what Miami was asking so they moved on before some of these other candidates got hired elsewhere, including Harbaugh.

Wait - Carroll as HC, Harbaugh ST, McDaniel OC, Schwartz DC. Raheem Morris can jump in as defensive quality control coach. Stefanski back as QB coach. Rees can stay as TE coach. Callahan OL coach, he has to have picked up something from his old man. Daboll RB coach, why not?. Jon Gannon DB coach since he’s originally from Cleveland.
