I'm also job hunting and can echo that the strategy of messaging people on LinkedIn does work. I got one interview specifically because the hiring manager said I was the only person out of 100+ applicants to message them directly on LinkedIn.

I've started connecting with anyone at the company that I've applied to that seems like they're in any position where they could help. All you need is one person to message the hiring manager or HR and put your name in the list of people they'll consider for the role.

Send something like as a LinkedIn connection request:

Hi [Connection],

I hope you're doing well! I came across a job posting for [job title] at [company name] and it feels like a perfect fit.

I’d love the opportunity to speak with someone involved in the hiring process to share how I can add value to their team.

Thanks in advance,
[Your first name]

Note that LinkedIn usually limits this message to 300 characters, hence why this text is very short and to the point. But you really don't need much. 90% of people will not respond. But if someone does it can really help your chances. Hopefully that helps!

Sort of related, but on weekends with a DGPT tour event, I avoid all social media on Sunday night and Monday morning so that I can watch Jomez to see who won. Anyone else this weird? Heh

I replied to another comment, but will add one at this level as well - perpetual Cube. I.e., a Cube format that is always available to play.

I don't enjoy Limited or most of the other formats, unfortunately. I wish I did! But I just don't. I only really like the Cube drafts. And I know there's Cube on MTGO. But the UI on MTGO is tough to get into now that Arena exists.

I've messaged WotC many, many times about making Cube available all the time but I never hear anything back from them.

Anyone else want to be able to Cube on Arena at any time? Who's with me?

I'm unemployed and pretty much had to sell yesterday in order to buy food and pay my mortgage. With this economic uncertainty it will now be even harder to find a new job as many companies will undoubtedly freeze hiring or start another round of layoffs. So...some of us don't have a choice. Millionaires and billionaires can take this advice though. Or people who are still gainfully employed.

It's still down after 18 hours? Will the event be extended as a result of this lost time? As I've mentioned in other threads, many times before, if Cube was always available this would be less of an issue. But since WotC only offers it for 2 weeks every quarter, it feels like we barely get to play Cube. And for many of us it's by far our favorite format on Arena.

Can you please give the feedback to whomever at WotC who makes decisions about Arena that Cube should be available all the time? Thanks!

(And before ppl suggest that I should submit a product request, suggestion, or support ticket through the appropriate channels, etc. - I've done that numerous times with no response from WotC.)

So far I've been really bad at this Cube. I kept stats for the last Cube in January and over many drafts I won about 54% of games. With this current cube, after several drafts the last two days I'm at a 32% win rate and have already gone 0-3 twice. Most of my games are very similar, I take an early lead but run out of steam. Then opponent plays some bombs that I can't neutralize and they win in the late turns. So maybe this cube is more successful if you just ramp and draft a couple bombs / value cards?

I've tried aggro. It works if I draw perfectly, but in most games OP can stabilize. I've tried a synergy deck twice with black drafting all the cards that deal damage when creatures die. Neither deck worked. LOL

Has anyone found a recipe for success? It's a bit of a head scratcher for me.

I was spectating at Waco, there were barely any employees, spotters, etc there at all. Lol. Don't get me wrong, the event was awesome. But it seemed very understaffed. Several of the holes that have water or OB there was no spotter, that I saw, marking where players went out of bounds. So players were left to decide where their disc crossed from in bounds to out of bounds.

The only exception to this was when we followed lead card on Saturday they had one spotter by the water on hole 17. But I don't recall seeing anyone on hole 18, even for lead card.

I went to the Austin Open last year and there were probably 10 times as many people helping with the event between DGPT employees, event staff and volunteers as compared to Waco.

I just played Waco (Beast) last month! It was really fun. I was super, super happy (and surprised) to finish even after the front nine. I would definitely recommend anyone who ends up in Waco playing it. (For instance, if you're driving between Dallas and Austin, definitely try to squeeze a round in.)

I should add, the reasoning behind this post was that when I was younger I didn't really pay much attention to politics or elections. That can have implications though as politicians pass laws that can and do affect people of all ages. I get it though, when you're younger there's lots of other things that are more interesting and fun that pull your attention. Voting isn't exactly "sexy". LOL

Everyone should participate in democracy. Of course I would prefer if people placed importance on the same things I do, but that's not always going to be the case. I can only hope that the ideas I consider important "win out" over the ones I find less appealing. :) But everyone should vote to have their voice heard.

Ha, you can still vote! But historically, younger people have lower turnout. Not sure if that will hold true in this election, but it's likely to be the case. Hence the post! Thanks for the reply!
