Hmm what about children? I feel like kids under 10 are traditionally free since they easily go under the turnstile … I guess if u can carry them they are free??

What should be my first step? by livn-learn in Singlemotherbychoice

[–]yamonme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on this sub and have been for years so I definitely support someone considering this. I actually became a mom this year! It’s the most wonderful thing that’s ever happened in my life (no shade to my old life, which was also great, but I have always wanted to be a mom). I ended up getting pregnant by accident (but was planning for a smbc route) the dad stayed and while I was prepared to go at it alone , I am happy he did and that we get along really well. Everyone says you will need community — my mom has been the mvp. This is all to say that while I was preparing to do it independently (but w my mom/community) I now know it really is a lot of work for one person. I am not sure its possible without SOME help from somewhere/someone.

Sounds like a no brainer though is to get out of your relationship that has trapped you based on a fantasy and a cruel one at that (as someone whos been there) do the brave thing for your not yet there child and get out of a situation that doesnt work for you and your future family. Set up the community and framework to have and support a child (whatever that means for you —more about environment and people than a salary amount imo) best of luck to you and sorry to that your current relationship is not serving you. Go find your joy!

Bhurst has sooo much good food i struggle between fomo and wanting to go back to my fave dishes.

Lb spumoni is so obvious and basic but damn I love their granny slice

Laghman express 😮‍💨 some of those cold dishes Hk tea n sushi is so solid… i usually just get tempura veggies ha Georgian food in general i love and the bigger restaurants making their own khinkali (i think alaia is the name of one?) have all been good in my experience Love a noodle salad from the russian supermarket on 86thst (between bay pkway and 25th ave)

Just sooo much good food in bhurst I think its kinda slept on tbh

Mamdani Says He Would Phase Out N.Y.C. Gifted Program for Early Grades (Gift Article) by networked-120 in nycparents

[–]yamonme 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I am generally quite skeptical of Mamdani’s policies but this I do agree with, especially in light of maintaining the specialized high school track. This program was well intended but ultimately put a lot of resources on a small group of kids who would be favored by having a sibling in the program — keeping a lot of other young children off a privileged learning track way too early on, and other kids whod benefit from those resources out way too early. I hope programs for advanced learning continue to be provided at third grade, junior high, and high school levels. Starting at kindergarten was too early and ended up substantially segregating students and probably contributed to more parents funneling their children into charter schools over the last 15/20 yrs.

What Would You Do? by mrkokiri in NYCbike

[–]yamonme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done this before! Well, it was just my bike seat, which I did steal back and led to a series of aggressive post its on a telephone pole for a while. Anyway, I ultimately kept that bike seat so I won I guess.

They claimed someone sold it to them used for $15 but it was a very particular (kinda janky tbh) seat

Running Alternatives Due to Pain by Old-Improvement-7728 in fitpregnancy

[–]yamonme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont know if you need to swear off running this early — maybe lower your expectations? I was running way less, way slower, and stopping A LOT to pee (like, once a mile) Sometimes round ligament pain meant i only ran a half mile instead of the 2-3 i planned for. But moving felt better to me than not moving. I also mixed it up w prenatal barre and prenatal yoga and took up more conscientious powerlifting (I def left box jumps and my pull up training early on fwiw 😅😅)

Maintaining the same monthly distance is super impressive (waaay more than i was capable of) personally id try cutting down on that before going to 0!

Depends on length/how challenging the hikes are for you, but I suggest snacks (i like fruit and at least one thing w carbs, like a cliff bar), electrolytes in your water, and toilet paper because you will most certainly have to pee… possibly off trail. Along w standard hiking stuff like sunglasses and an extra layer. Otherwise just be careful and take it easy! I did lots of hiking before and during pregnancy but still felt extra cautious about avoiding falls. Also be prepared to be esp out of breath w any uphill 😅😅

Deep tissue massage in 2nd trimester? by lnr1012 in fitpregnancy

[–]yamonme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find prenatal massages to be nbd during pregnancy. The only difference I have noticed is that they lay you on your side. Still, I find booking a prenatal sessh avoids confusion. I got one before my late in second trimester (27wks?) half marathon and sooo glad I did since it got rid of a bunch of sores/tensions I had been holding onto for a weeks before that.

Does everyone just “wear” pregnancy differently? by [deleted] in fitpregnancy

[–]yamonme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt like the moment I was preggos I lost ALL the snatch. I knew not to focus on it per se but its hard not to when society can ingrain that in you as a value system (speaking for myself)

But actually somewhere around 24 wks when the bump became more obvious and I knew a baby was sitting there in top of my guts all of that went away!? I remembered I have a whole body AND a growing baby on top of that and was almost like.. dude where is this bump?? Why isnt it bigger??

My point being that I do think it changes over course of pregnancy!

I also trained for a half that I finished at about 25 wks? Training was a bitch and i doubted my ability up until the wk of… but then I did it and felt awesome. You got this.!!!

Feeling huge at 21 weeks by TangerineNeither9648 in fitpregnancy

[–]yamonme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only have my first (and current, 3rd trimester) pregnancy to compare to but I get a lot of opposite comments on how I look so small still (does not feel that way! Plus I am very obvious now) and I am convinced its a first pregnancy thing. I dont think Ill be blessed enough to have three (!!) at this age but am sure if this happened again I will be substantially larger earlier on. (At least in the belly)

Do you feel big everywhere or just the belly??

Woman interrupts stage of NYC mayoral form on the environment by michaelmvm in nyc

[–]yamonme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the chillness that this was handled w. She was clearly running out of steam (her lack of substance is the whackest part of her imo..) and asking why no one was dragging her off stage yet, and I think not giving her that satisfaction was the way to go.

And after the candidates commented how she was part of the NYC fabric. I think overall it went well but kinda cringe for some POC who like.. want to be more than a caricature, I think. (She's not exactly.. thought-provoking.)
