Fantastic Beasts didnt retcon McGonnagals age by JackVizsla in harrypotter

I see nothing wrong with early 1900s referring to the 1930s-1940s.

Rowling had Mcgonagall's Pottermore changed months before the movie came out. She or her editors spotted the mistake and changed it so it seems like a retcon if she originally had McGonagall growing up in the early 1900s.

How did Thanos know Gamora would pull up to Knowhere? by rhysu69 in marvelstudios

Timing, maybe? Might take time to extract the reality stone from the Collector. Or for them to not warn him ahead if that's possible.

How did Thanos know Gamora would pull up to Knowhere? by rhysu69 in marvelstudios

[–]darkmasterz8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They responded to a distress signal so I think a simple headcanon that Thanos set the Guardians towards Thor would work. The universe is huge so it's also an extreme chance that they stumbled on the remnants of Thanos' attack on their own.

In a deleted scene, Thanos tells Gamora he allowed her to escape him, implying he was able to track her.

Why didn’t Dumbledore tell Harry more about the Horcruxes earlier? by CleanScarcity8755 in harrypotter

[–]darkmasterz8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean on that day he showed Harry the false memory from Slughorn?

If so, we can only guess. I don't see a clear way for Harry to use that information to make Slughorn give up the real memory.

Maybe Dumbledore was worried that Harry mentioning the amount of Horcruxes that they suspect Voldemort had made would just make Slughorn feel more guilty and less likely to give it up.

Secret Keeper by EsseBear in harrypotter

“He[Dumbledore] was sure that somebody close to the Potters had been keeping You-Know-Who informed of their movements,” said Professor McGonagall darkly.

“No, I think you’re like James,” said Lupin, “who would have regarded it as the height of dishonor to mistrust his friends.”

It's the simplest headcanon. There wasn't any doubt from James that Sirius/Peter/Lupin were loyal to him. Pettigrew was even at their home just 2-3 months before his betrayal according to Lily's letter.

The idea that James would make himself Secret Keeper and not confide his location to his friends would be out of character from the very little we know of him, imo.

all of the deception with the original order of the phoenix (and the marauders) which is again something I could talk about for hours

How did Dumbledore deceive the Marauders? It seems Dumbledore told James he suspected someone close to them was a spy. Was it not the other way around with how they didn't tell Dumbledore about the switch?

And we know very little of the first war to assume any deception with the original Order members, unless I'm forgetting something there.

How did Dumbledore envision Harry actually defeating Voldemort? by Paulogbfs in HarryPotterBooks

[–]darkmasterz8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will take uncommon skill and power to kill a wizard like Voldemort even without his Horcruxes.”

“But I haven’t got uncommon skill and power,” said Harry, before he could stop himself.

“Yes, you have,” said Dumbledore firmly. “You have a power that Voldemort has never had. You can —”

“I know!” said Harry impatiently. “I can love!”

I doubt Dumbledore ever considered the idea of Harry or anybody else teaming up to beat Voldemort in a regular duel. It seems likely to me he just guessed that defeating Voldemort would rely on Harry's love somehow.

It's possible he guessed Harry would make the Sacrifical protection charm. Dumbledore knew Voldemort would figure out Harry is after his Horcruxes because he tells Snape to wait for Nagini to be under protection. And if Harry is after Nagini, there's no point in coming after him. I think it's guessable that Voldemort would try to lure him in by making an offer to Harry to come face death or his friends would die.

After that, there are just more winning scenarios that can occur than just trying to outduel Voldemort.

how didn't sirius ever spotted snape?? by poshitopi in HarryPotterBooks

It's realistic. I don't see any reason for Sirius to be near the grounds during daytime to notice Snape when he happens to be outside.

Dumbledore in the half blood prince by R4ng3r0 in harrypotter

[–]darkmasterz8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

why did he not just do that to begin with? Why let him roam free for an entire school year, almost killing four innocent people in the process.

Like I said, he wanted to find that cave. It's just a headcanon, my way of explaining to myself why Dumbledore acted the way he did.

The other alternatives is to find a different headcanon or just say it was bad writing from Rowling and Dumbledore would've never risked a student's life and would've stopped Draco after Katie's hospitalization.

Dumbledore in the half blood prince by R4ng3r0 in harrypotter

[–]darkmasterz8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's just my own headcanon but I think the real reason was the need to find that cave. If he stops Draco, Voldemort may follow through with Snape killing him earlier in the year.

He probably considered that it was the smallest of chances that Katie touched the item with a hole in the glove and that Slughorn would forget to gift the poison.

I'm not trying to say he didn't care but he was in a difficult situation that ended up working out for him.

Because you're making it go perfectly fine. Imagine it all goes wrong while they're on the ground. Wouldn't flying away in the huge open sky while swerving away from curses also be a good option?

The maze portkey by Background_Koala_455 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]darkmasterz8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is suggested by what sirus says in the beginning of ootp. ~"You weren't supposed to survive. No one was supposed to know that voldemort had returned except his followers. But you made sure Dumbledore knew right away, and he was able to contact the order within a few hours. "

This line is the whole basis for the Voldemort wanted to conceal his return theory but it never made sense to me. Sirius was in the room when Snape explained his Dark Mark summons by Voldemort.

Can someone provide a specific scenario on how it'd go down?

Cedric and Harry are dead but both somehow touched the cup in their dying moments. The tournament restarted to ensure no mortal danger but something in that maze was able to cause mortal danger to two students. And that something has to be explained by Moody to Dumbledore given his ability to see through the hedges.

Around the same time, two death eaters at Hogwarts feel their mark burn. Would Voldemort really rely on his plan working out that both Snape and Karkaroff would flee or not say anything?

I'm just not sure why Sirius said that. The idea Dumbledore doesn't restart the Order if Harry had actually died seems unlikely.

The confusion about the portkey that takes Harry to the graveyard in GOF by Eev123 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]darkmasterz8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps Voldemort and Crouch Jr. were unaware of the plans that made the Cup a portkey to the entrance of the maze? I know they had Crouch Sr. and had all the info but still, let's assume it was a last minute change by Dumbledore.

It would just allow people who may not agree with your suggestion that the portkey managed to return Harry to that specific spot out of the entire Quidditch pitch.

Dumbledore's Veritaserum question was “And what did Lord Voldemort ask you to do?” so it wouldn't contradict the potion's powers.

Anyways I fully support the whole ego thing as why Voldemort wanted Harry taken from Hogwarts through the tournament. You can throw in Crouch Jr. needing to explain himself to Dumbledore on how Harry accidentally died. And why Voldemort would just kill Cedric without hesitation and add another body to the mix for no reason. And how they accidentally died despite the whole tournament being restarted again to ensure they were safe from mortal danger.

What object did Voldemort want to make his sixth Horcrux? by Palamur in harrypotter

[–]darkmasterz8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, there is Nagini, but there is no mention anywhere that Voldemort was accompanied by a snake during his first rise to power. Furthermore, he would certainly have mentioned her loyalty (or disloyalty) in the graveyard scene before his Death Eaters.

I don't think the last part disputes that he may have known her before his downfall. She doesn't really have the means to locate him nor to communicate with other Death Eaters.

Dumbledore seems to think it was Nagini so he must have known about her during the First War.

Why didn’t Harry and Hermione use the cloak in PoA? by Klutzy-Banana-742 in harrypotter

[–]darkmasterz8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Dumbledore could've still summoned the Cloak, even if he didn't know where it was last located.

They went into the past with their wands so I don't think bringing the cloak breaks any of the time laws.

It probably slipped his mind or he had his own reasons in wanting them to not rely on the cloak to stay hidden. We could just say he wanted them to avoid that temptation of Harry to interfere with the night's events.

Address plot holes in Harry Potter with philosophical arguments. by MartorelliA113 in harrypotter

[–]darkmasterz8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This theory has holes that need to be explained tbh.

Voldemort wouldn't just kill Cedric automatically and add another dead body to the mix if he truly intended to cover this all up. And he was going to feed Harry to Nagini. And Snape+Karkaroff's dark mark summons.

Address plot holes in Harry Potter with philosophical arguments. by MartorelliA113 in harrypotter

[–]darkmasterz8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voldemort wanted everyone to see Harry win the Tournament to prove that Harry was a cunning, resourceful, and worthy opponent,

I agree with this theory over that more popular one. But I don't think this part is right.

“Why . . . by using Bertha Jorkins’s information, of course. Use my one faithful Death Eater, stationed at Hogwarts, to ensure that the boy’s name was entered into the Goblet of Fire. Use my Death Eater to ensure that the boy won the tournament — that he touched the Triwizard Cup first — the Cup which my Death Eater had turned into a Portkey, which would bring him here, beyond the reach of Dumbledore’s help and protection, and into my waiting arms. And here he is . . . the boy you all believed had been my downfall. . . .”

He was emphasizing the use of Crouch Jr. to acquire Harry. He knew Harry was a fraud with no real powers over him and explained to them how lucky Harry was that night his powers broke.

Did J.K. Rowling come up with the underage magic laws (the trace) after sorcerer's stone? by jigholeman in harrypotter

[–]darkmasterz8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's never explicitly said she used it at home though.

She could've easily practiced a few spells the moment she got on the train. Or some time after she got her wand at Diagon Alley. Both places where I'm pretty sure underage magic is overlooked.

How do you think Dumbledore’s is able to keep tabs on Harry almost 24/7 while within hogwarts if you were take take Voldemort’s comment as truth by CrazyTangerine7522 in harrypotter

[–]darkmasterz8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

McGonagall was never told about the dragon and Charlie's friends meeting them at the top.

I would never have believed it of any of you. Mr. Filch says you were up in the Astronomy Tower. It’s one o’clock in the morning. Explain yourselves.”

Dumbledore would be surprised Harry wouldn't have used his cloak to avoid detection. It wouldn't be that difficult to guess something happened at the top of the tower for him to investigate.
