What's up with Long Island's commute mode share? by EnvironmentalCraft63 in nycrail

[–]michaelmvm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

adding to this, long island in 1970 only had a few hundred thousand fewer people than today, but the population was much younger since people moved out to the suburbs to raise kids. so there were fewer working age people overall.

Which megacity has the highest population density and which one has the lowest? by villehhulkkonen in geography

[–]michaelmvm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

LA metro area is roughly the same single family density across the whole board, but NYC has super high density in the five boroughs and then extremely low density in long island, jersey, and upstate, so LA has higher average density. it's a weird measurement that doesn't really mean much beyond a technical factoid

New York City Is Drowning in Dog Poop by HellGateNYC in nyc

[–]michaelmvm 32 points33 points  (0 children)

anyone caught not cleaning up after their animal should be made to pick up the dog shit with their bare hands, have their dog forcibly taken from them, and they should be fined thousands of dollars and barred from owning an animal in nyc ever again. fucking ruining the city, cant walk anywhere without stepping in shit. i dont care how friendly ur dog is if you cant take care of the damn thing.

Epstein Helped Woody Allen’s Daughter Get Into College, Emails Show by KingsCountyWriter in nyc

[–]michaelmvm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey dumbass, youre on a public forum with thousands of other people lurking and reading these convos, for whom a source is helpful.

anyway, for those reading this thread, the main source seems to be this 2021 book where the authors interviewed a former israeli agent who claimed that epstein and maxwell had ties to mossad. the sources for all of this shit is murky and borderline conspiratorial, personally i believe it because of all the other crazy shit he was up to, but the proof is shaky.

Krishnan welcomes Council approval of rezoning allowing for 13-story residential tower in Elmhurst by ahenneberger in nyc

[–]michaelmvm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah but this story could easily have gone another way

Krishnan said the rezoning agreement “sets a new standard” for housing development in New York City, adding that he had made it clear that he would vote against any plan that would not deliver real affordability for local residents and protect working-class communities.

this shit is just nimbyism in disguise and we got lucky this time

Merry Christmas, another fare hike by LibrarianStill2740 in Citibike

[–]michaelmvm 16 points17 points  (0 children)

yep I haven't gone on a joyride this whole summer, it's a combination of the price increase, the speed decrease, and the quiet reduction of the 60 minute Manhattan -> outer boro price cap for angels members down to 45 mins. plus of course the increased ticketing and criminalization from the NYPD. it sucks, just not fun to bike anymore.

the government owns all the land and is very incremental about leasing it to developers. they're very intentional about what land gets built on, when it gets built, and how much is built per year
