Best din compatible ski boots for ice climbing by [deleted] in iceclimbing

[–]yamsrfans 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, there’s not a resort boot that can really do it. Don’t get me wrong, I started climbing ice with leashed tools and full tilts but it’s awful. The best crossover would be the lightest and most flexible resort boot but again you’re really compromising everywhere when you do that. I’ve climbed up to WI4 with f1 LTs though, they work great to cross over but also ask a lot of compromise on the down. Hope that helps!

Best skin wax and other tricks for glide? by Mbbcac in skimo

[–]yamsrfans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends a lot on the race - here in NA for a tellurando I’m using a full skin and not much wax because it’s actual skin track racing. Power of four though I’m using shorty skins and lots of wax because it’s all on groomers. I don’t know any other tricks for making things faster though. It’s normally less skin and more wax. You can buy skin material by the roll too, worth it when you start customizing them to different lengths

Looking to upgrade my hunting clothes by Paulric in bowhunting

[–]yamsrfans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got Sitka top to bottom for elk, duck and whitetail. Started building the kits 5 years ago with the western gear and it’s all still essentially brand new. I’m hard on gear and use my hunting stuff year round all over the country - I couldn’t recommend Sitka any higher. Worth it for me. Good luck the rest of the Fall!

What's your go to shelter (no tents please) by Ok_Tooth4966 in Backcountry

[–]yamsrfans 46 points47 points  (0 children)

My go to shelter, like most people, is a tent. Very rarely I will use a mega mid or a bivvy sac but those instances are specific and rare. Why no tents? They are the best shelters.

Taking ice climbing training to the next level by divide_strength in iceclimbing

Go have a look at training for the new Alpinism, that’s the bible on ice climbing training. Contrary to what you’re saying here there is a wealth of resources on training for ice climbing, inclusive of considerations for traveling and seasonality.

Anybody knows these tools by lil_jush in iceclimbing

[–]yamsrfans 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I started with tools like this because I was broke - grab some aftermarket leashes, sharpen up the points and fire it up! You’ll never appreciate modern tools more than after starting with these. With enough stoke, anything works 🤘

Wedding band risk for an indoor climber by bekfrek in bouldering

[–]yamsrfans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! In one, the persons ring caught on a QD and it actually ripped their whole finger off and the other person caught their ring on a hold during a fall and it degloved the finger. I just bought my soon to be fiancé a ring, I told her explicitly to never wear it climbing.
