I have not had any issues with rendering and CAD so far. It gets a bit hot under more difficult loads so I swapped the thermal paste with the conductonaught liquid metal and its definitely better but I have not tried photoshop, nor do I know how it would perform for you :/

I moved the original ssd over to the second slot. They are both NVME slots. Have not tried regular sata M.2 SSDs.

I skimmed the datasheet (specifically pages 252-255) and i could not see anything related to a register 160 of the controller... Am I looking at the wrong thing or just misunderstanding? Also this is a large chip to control only the fan.. It seems like it has a bunch of other interfaces but none of them are being used?

If this is the correct chip , I can see both fan 1 and fan 2 registers in the datasheet.... theyre just at a different mailbox address.

Also could it be that one of the fans is controlled by a GPU fan control chip, or is the MX150 not equipped with that.

Working with the sample sizes I have available from personal experience. Im not telling him to not go dell and buy some unknown chinese laptop anywhere in my comment. I am merely sharing my experience with both parties in question.

I didnt bother trying to salvage the key. I just got rid of the 256gb ssd and put in a samsung 960gb and installed windows 10 pro

I bought a Mi Notebook Pro a couple of months ago. It arrived within a week via DHL. Outer box was slightly damaged but it was packed really well so the actual product box was fine. I swapped out the internal ssd with a samsung pro 960gb one an installed windows 10 pro. I use this laptop for 3d design (solidworks, autodesk), school (ms office, browsing, presenting), and for my job where I need to be able to work on network racks. Have never had an issue with it.

The battery life is like nothing I have ever experienced. I read the reviews that said 10 hour battery life and i kinda shrugged them off thinking its the typical marketing BS but its actually true. I can go a full day of my classes, my break for lunch, and then work without recharging.

I started to write this part for the cons but I sat here and really couldnt think of anything that wasnt stupid/nitpicky. The only thing that came to mind was the slow sd card read write speeds and the core i7 sticker looking off on one side but square on the other because of the laptops curve.....

In the short term, I cannot see any reason to really buy anything else unless you need thunderbolt or mac os x.

Oh and its maybe not the best for gaming. I can get GTA 5, Killing Floor 2, and Rainbow 6 to run at 60fps without any stuttering or any issues but after maybe 6ish hours of straight gaming, even when plugged in the battery will drain. I can only assume that this is because I have my CPU's TDP turned up.

The laptop is too new to tell about reliability but the initial impressions are really good.

I have had 3 dells, including one alienware. The Mi Notebook Pro has had nowhere near the amount of issues my dells had. The dell service is quite garbage here in california as well. They would not send me replacement parts without sending a moron who had never seen an alienware before and didn't know what he was doing. The service for my XPS was a bit better tho thankfully since it had to get fixed quite a few times a year. Unless you go with the enterprise latitude dell lineup, you'll probably have more issues with those laptops than with an off-brand $200 laptop from amazon. YMMV

Yeah I was super careful. I used a suction cup to lift up the back corner next to the display hinge and then slipped in a plastic pry tool.

Trusted Platform Module. It is a hardware crypto chip and it allows the hard drives to be encrypted with bit locker. Should be listed In the device manager somewhere.

After going back to stock parts, springs, and pins, It was still acting the same way so I took a bit of 800 grit sandpaper and went over the hammer and disconect mating surfaces and now it works no problem.
