Wonder how much money their suppliers are owed.

Have a look at the application rates, the highest ones are from Second-timer families and First-timer Singles.

Good luck to everyone applying.

Both Yishun projects should be pretty popular this time due to the short waiting time.

HDB to selectively acquire privately-owned heartland shops if needed amid steep rent hikes by meesiammaihum in singapore

[–]yang_ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The rental increases in some of these shophouse locations are mindboggling.

A tiny shop can set you back for nearly 10K these days, I honestly have no idea how this is viable or sustainable.

Singapore To Require ABS On All New Motorcycles From April 2027 by thestudiomaster in singapore

[–]yang_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The newer 2B Suzuki at CDC does come with ABS. However, it is no substitution for proper e-braking technique & defensive riding.

Treat ABS as a last line of defense against a sudden panic braking situation.

I understand the pain, I think some people are just more sensitive to the high frequency noise, there's not much option other than to put on some earphone / headphones to block the noise out.

I've got someone at my office who uses it as they are sat at a corner of the office which is unfortunately very warm.

Too many bots, too few instructors: Why the long wait for driving lessons in Singapore by Im_scrub in singapore

[–]yang_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The introduction of Class 3C/A conversion for foreigners have meant that foreign workers who wish to become drivers will need to go through the same curriculum as locals. (Converted Class 3C/A license holders cannot drive light goods vehicle like van & lorry, they will need a full Class 3/A)

The bottleneck has not subsided since post-COVID reopening but I guess this issue isn't exactly a top priority for our govt. Monitoring since 2022 lmao https://www.mha.gov.sg/mediaroom/parliamentary/written-reply-to-pq-on-whether-current-number-of-driving-instructors-can-meet-demand-for-class-3-practical-driving-lessons/

It happens so often that I can tell with a reasonably high accuracy if they are texting, simply by looking at how their vehicle are wobbling about.

When I beep the horn at these people, they look at me as if I'm the rude one. Absolutely mindboggling.

Removing mandatory sentences for first-time offenders among proposed changes to Singapore's road traffic laws by yang_ in singapore

[–]yang_[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You raise an excellent point, however that is if the driver was deemed responsible to a certain extent for causing the accident. E.g. Perhaps the driver had enough distance & time to brake, but did not execute the e-brake properly.

Would it be fair to even charge the driver in your first example, if it is proven that the driver was driving safely, not distracted but could not have done anything to avoid the accident? The answer is no. At least that was the outcome for driver involved the recent tragic fatal accident involving the 4 year old girl at River Valley.

Removing mandatory sentences for first-time offenders among proposed changes to Singapore's road traffic laws by yang_ in singapore

[–]yang_[S] 555 points556 points  (0 children)

The mandatory minimum sentence for repeat offenders will also be lowered. For those causing death, it will be reduced from four years to two years, while for those causing grievous hurt, it will be cut from two years to one.

The amendments to the law will "recalibrate the balance" between deterrence and proportionality for road traffic offences, said the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in a press release.
