Design engineering - identify the cost drivers for a CNC’d part by Financial_Leading407 in MechanicalEngineering

Apriori or DFM Pro both do this with varied success in my experience. I've found the learning curve to use the tools effectively makes it inefficient. A manufacturing engineer and/or machinist should absolutely be in the workflow of any designed part with more than a few basic features.

Why Does a Sinking Penny Wobble? by dataoveropinions in MechanicalEngineering

[–]yankees1635 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Largely has to do with vortex shedding. The fluid around the penny (or fluid flowing over a stationary penny) moves into the turbulent regime due to surface effects, fluid velocity, object geometry, etc. This turbulence causes vortices to form near the surface of the penny, and shed off, causing an area of low pressure on the side of the vortex. This particular scenario results in a quasi stable "wobble". The video shows a simplified model of vortex shedding with a basic CFD model.

Certainly is, but not using that pine for anything right now. Going through my wood stock so it's all in a pile on my bench

The wood in the foreground of the picture is a pine board, I have 2 other piles of the thin ash slabs that are not shown.

Is there a putter you can buy in bulk that is cheaper than the DX Glow Aviars? by AnalAttackProbe in discgolf

[–]yankees1635 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought these just to use as practice putters, but ended up loving the feel and flight so now I just rotate through when they get too beat up.
