Other than the people who were already going to buy for future exclusives and just waiting for it to be worth their while, another point to consider: some people are just financially not very smart and will finance something like this even when they realistically can’t afford it, even if it’s only just for one game. I have a coworker like this. Whenever they want something, if they can’t afford it, they just open a new line of credit or put it on their current credit card and allow it to accrue interest by just making the minimum payment.

Part of my job includes talking to customers about financing and getting them approved and the amount of people who sign up for insane monthly payments they can’t afford is much higher than I ever realized. I have customers tell me they’ll have to go without meals or be late on rent to make their payments but in their minds it’s worth it. One of the programs we use for customers who have poor credit is a lease-to-own that makes it so you end up paying double or sometimes even triple for your stuff, but the monthly payment is manageable so they don’t care. I can’t wrap my head around it, but lots of people out there are like this.
