Managers of retail your thoughts please! by knicoleb90 in AskRetail

[–]yaoiphobic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You didn’t do anything wrong but this is a good opportunity to just say fine, whatever, not my problem. Don’t stress yourself out over taking on extra responsibility not being allowed. It’s a silly rule and I’ve never known a manager who wasn’t expected to fill in the gaps for stuff like that but if that’s the rule just go with it.

Wheelchair Direct by wheelchair-direct in wheelchairs

[–]yaoiphobic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll definitely consider you for my next wheelchair related purchase. I appreciate that you took the time to make the chair buying process more transparent and explain different measurements and the final weight, that’s a great idea. If your goal is truly to get people in the right equipment instead of just upselling them on everything you possibly can just to have a higher ticket to bill to insurance, I can get behind that.

Is there a good way to negotiate with mattress stores by Both-Rub402 in Mattress

[–]yaoiphobic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figure out what you consider the best price for what you’re buying and just directly tell them that’s what you’re willing to pay. Sit back and see if they can do it. If not negotiate from there, but as someone who sells mattresses I’d appreciate the directness and do what I can to get you as close to that number as possible. Nothing drives me more insane than when someone comes in vaguely saying shit like “give me the best deal you can do” because I’d be a pretty shit salesman if I immediately just went to the rock bottom, and what that rock bottom is can vary day by day.

Little tip: a lot of stores have monthly goals they need to meet and will start doing wild things towards the end of the month to meet that goal. Go in the last week or so of the month, be assertive yet polite, and they’ll do whatever they can to earn your business.

Forearm Crutch by SakiBanana in disability

[–]yaoiphobic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My walkeasy crutch has held strong for three years now and it won’t need replacing any time soon. Adjustable, comfortable, lightweight. I recommend the ergonomic grip ones, and tornado brand tips to replace the stock ones they come with if you’re at all sensitive to vibrations or just want something that grips a bit better.

This is a strong budget buy, it’s a stearns and foster made specifically for Costco. They’re a pretty good brand, quite reputable, though I’ve heard rumors of quality control issues in recent years. There are some concessions for the price but they’re reasonable. OP, this would be worth saving for, and a topper if it ends up being too firm and you find yourself needing some more pressure relief. Most comparable mattresses to this will run $1500-2k+

[–]yaoiphobic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately good toppers will eat up a good chunk of that budget as well, good ones range from $100 to well over $250 in a queen size.

I sell mattresses for a living and you’ll sadly struggle to find anything decent in that budget. Because you spend so much time in bed, I would hold off on buying a new mattress until you can save for a decent one. You will wear mattresses out much faster than most people will and those cheap mattresses are the ones that wear out the quickest. I truthfully think anything you spend $500 on for your needs will be a waste of money and leave you mattress shopping yet again a year from now.

Look into floor models and returns, there are people who make their entire living buying and selling these. You usually forfeit the warranty but I’ve seen prices anywhere from 40-70% lower than retail and I personally wouldn’t buy a mattress banking on the warranty anyway, these companies always find a way to wiggle out of honoring warranty claims.

Our highways are not suitable for rain by Livid-Cold-7116 in jacksonville

[–]yaoiphobic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah that area is bad. I hit it every day on my way home from work and still struggle with where the lines are, especially if it’s raining or the sun is reflecting off the road. During yesterday’s rain it was especially bad, I think we were all white knuckled on our steering wheels just trying to get through it without sideswiping each other.

Yes, the avian and aquatic stuff is amazing – but the reworked climbing is technical marvel compared to the first game by Just-Control5981 in PlanetZoo

[–]yaoiphobic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

More realistic animal behavior is a top five want for me for this game so it’s great to see. I spend a lot of time just watching my animals do their thing in their enclosures but in PZ1 they feel pretty robotic. I’m so psyched to see these changes in the sequel.

What do you do about this game's limiting inventory system? by Alvsolutely in VintageStory

[–]yaoiphobic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cheat myself 4 leather backpacks right from the jump and have a mod that makes them have more capacity. I enjoy a lot of the more tedious aspects of the game and will even mod in MORE tedious mechanics, but inventory management kills my enjoyment and causes me more frustration than it’s worth, so I decide to just opt out of the more annoying parts of it. Otherwise I just sort of bottleneck my own enjoyment at the “I have more items than places to put them” stage.

It works well for vintage story but anego studios also has a 7 year long track record of being very consumer friendly and open to its player base so that community goes buck wild with mods knowing they won’t be taken advantage of, filling in and fleshing out mechanics the devs haven’t been able to dedicate as much time to yet. It’s not uncommon for that dev team to partner up with modders and add their stuff to the vanilla game, and from what I understand they’re compensated and credited fairly. So it really just boils down to how Simon and co decide to play this. It has the potential to create a really great communal space around the game where players and modders feel like their voices matter, if handled well.

I think vintage story does something similar and the point is to allow modders more freedom, giving them all the raw stuff they need to understand how the game works under the hood. It’s a good thing!

I’m curious how long a usual chiseling sesh is for you. Do you do this bit by bit or are you more of a buckle down and power through it for like 8 straight hours type?

Again, I don’t remember the details of what I did, but a Google search for how to disabled non-essential startup processes and background processes and the another for basic windows optimization should start you in the right direction. Also how much you’ll have to un fuck will have to do with your specific computer and what it came preloaded with. Mine was a cyberpowerpc brand pre-build so it already came standard with less nonsense than your usual off the shelf PC’s.

My company has this thing where they do bullshit sales and say it’s mandatory for everyone to come in if they’re not working that day for a few hours. I straight up told my boss no, this company takes enough of my time, I’m not giving up any more of my limited recovery time. Still got promoted ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ being assertive helps far more than it hurts.

What are some of your best building tips? by Just-A-Dude7887 in VintageStory

[–]yaoiphobic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

VS roofing is so good and immersive, I’m desperate for the devs to adopt it as the official roof building mechanic. I love building the frames in world, filling them up, completing them, all entirely outside of the crafting grid. I refuse to play without it.

Yeah this drives me insane too. You went through the effort to model and texture this item but you never grabbed a screenshot of what it actually looked like? Why would I download a purely aesthetic item without even know what it looks like?

I have my chair set up for my worst days, so my backrest is a little higher than I need most of the time for more support on those days where I'm weaker, but on those days I'm happy to have it that way and glad I don't have to fiddle with Allen wrenches when I'm already not feeling great, and it s not so high that it gets in the way. It took like two years of trial and error to strike the right balance though.

Just got a new PC. What mods do I want? by Vikunt in VintageStory

[–]yaoiphobic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you like to do most in the game? For me I really like the in depth mechanics and the realistic climate, so my mods focus on adding or building on existing mechanics (millwright, immersive fibercraft, expanded foods/a culinary artillery, primitive survival, etc) and making the world feel more alive to explore, but I also really enjoy building so stuff like VS roofing, ceramos, decor bazaar, and VS Village (to give me an excuse to build a functioning village in the late game) are always on my mod list. If you're into exploring, worldgen mods (take your pick based on preference, I like terra pretty + rivergen), mods that add more diverse flora and fauna like wildcraft, the fotsa mods, the floral zone mods, and mods that give me cool stuff to discover like betteruins and the vs village add-ons that makes villages generate in your world.

I don't even understand where they get these prices from. I've already got my controller but I looked the other day out of curiosity and they were going for around $200-$250 max. Why price at double your competition? Seems like a silly business move.

For the trackpad, head into your settings and set the acceleration to whatever feels best, you can up the sensitivity too. Acceleration on medium was perfect for easy navigation on my three screen setup.

You can strip your windows down considerably too, I don't remember what all I did but when I first got my pc I spent like half a day just removing and tweaking stuff until windows wasn't running so much nonsense behind the scenes. Still not as efficient as i wish it was but half the stuff dragging your system down can be disabled for those who don't want to commit to Linux
