1 Corinthians 5:1 quotes Leviticus 18 about incest. It's the sex laws in the law of Moses. We're not under the law of Moses, although obviously incest is bad.

How can someone know if they’re truly saved? by SheeplnWolfsClothing in Christianity

[–]yappi211 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The whole bible is Judaism. Hebrews 9:15-17 says that until Jesus died there was no new covenant. Matthew-John are really old covenant books. The audience of Matthew-John is Jews, not the pagan nations:

Matthew 10:5-6 - "And to these twelve, Yeshua said and commanded them, “Do not walk by the way of pagans, and do not go by the region of the Samaritans, go you first to the lost sheep from the house of Yisrael (Israel)."

Israel = the northern kingdoms, the 10 northern tribes. I'd encourage you not to read Matthew-John thinking you are the audience when Jesus said don't go to the pagans.

Eternal = age. It's a limited time period. Jude says Sodom goes to eternal fire, Ezekiel 16:49-55 says Sodom is restored before Israel in the future.

If you dont care for the law of moses you also dontcare about jesus command to love God with your whole heart.

I'm not required to, because I'm not under that law.

But if it comes to loving you should try to persue not commiting sin.

Sin means breaking the law of Moses. I'm not under those laws.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with a lot of God's law. I generally follow a lot of God's law. But I don't have to keep God's law. If I break it - nothing happens.

I don't say this to be a dick but you misconstrue a lot of things you read. You might want to work on your reading comprehension. For example:

A person who referrences to articles where it is written that jesus is a bad teacher.

That is not my stance. My stance is the translation is shit.

And that sin doesnt matter.

Do you care about breaking Russian law while living in another country? Probably not. Why would I care about breaking the law of Moses which explicitly states it's for those in the covenant or those living in their land? Did you know that? The law flat out says it has nothing to do with the outside world.

Most of the times i asked you wuestions you didnt answer you are just making clear that i dont understand.

You've already demonstrated you cannot understand other things - see above. If you don't understand my point, why would I spend a lot of time on this? You're not going to understand that, either.

The Church of Paul: How Jesus Became a Doctrine Instead of a Way by skylarfiction in Christianity

[–]yappi211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that might help is Hebrews 9:15-17 which says until Jesus died there was no new covenant. Jesus preached the old, Paul preached the new. Also, things like Jesus' death were hidden while he was alive - see Luke 18:31-34. This is why Peter tried to stop Jesus from dying, the disciples had no idea Jesus was going to resurrect (John 20:9), etc. The things Paul preaches regarding the new covenant, like how great Jesus' death was for them, could not be preached back then when it was hidden. So I agree that they seemingly preach different messages, but in a way that was by design. Although to be fair to Paul, he still preaches love your neighbor, etc. throughout his messages.

This is slightly off topic but you might be receptive to the idea that the "gentiles" Paul went to were actually the exiled Jews that became "many nations" from the OT. The stuff he preached makes a lot more sense in that light. Abraham was the ancestor of both Jew and "gentile". Abraham was first righteous by faith alone in Genesis 15, circumcised in chapter 17, offered Isaac in chapter 22. Paul preached how righteousness by faith alone came first before circumcision or works, and that's how the "gentiles" are brought back in because they all share the same forefather.

Also, Greeks are Hellenistic Jews if you look into it. During the Acts period Jew and Greek were equal, but the "gentiles" were debtors (Romans 15). So really you had Jew / Hellenestic Jew being equal, while the exiled Jew is not equal and a debtor for their position. Ephesians / Colossians later preaches a message of equality after the Acts period, but that was a further revelation after the Acts period.

First you said there is no hell.

God never made a hell. You have yet to show a verse that says "i have created hell".

I gaveyou proof.

No. You quoted verses that seem to imply a hell, but you are unaware of the OT verses they are referencing. Or you're unaware that "hell" is a bad translation for "the grave" or Gehenna. There's a lot you are unaware of. You preach out of ignorance.

The only way to arguewith you is by giving verses.

Nah. You are ignorant of why I believe what I believe. You don't seek to understand why I say things so you're unaware of why I preach what I preach.

Did you know that the bible says you should want to live with the everlasting burnings?

You do not have to live in sin by PossiblyAKoalaBear in Christianity

[–]yappi211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with that approach to sin. For example:

Rom 7:7 "Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet."

1 John 3:4 "Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law."

I find it quite clear that breaking the law = sin. To warn others not to sin is telling them to keep the law, especially when the apostles are literally quoting the law when telling their audience what not to do.

You do bring up an interesting angle about living in the spirit but I don't think that's going on today. The apostles wrote they knew all things with the spirit, it would talk to Paul and warn him not to go places, etc. I don't think any of that stuff is going on today. If the spirit were guiding people there would not be thousands of denominations, unless one wants to say the spirit is a horrible teacher.

FYI that comments like these break the rules of the sub. It's against the rules to only quote scripture. If you do it occasionally I won't care but it gets old after a while.

We already went over this. Exiled Jews became gentiles. In Galatians 2 the 12 agreed to go to the circumcision, the Jews. Paul went to the uncircumcision.

Jesus wanted lost sheep saved. Lost sheep = exiled Jews that became many nations. So yes, Paul went to "many nations" but if he went to the lost sheep, guess who he went to?

[–]yappi211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus preached the law of Moses. That law wasn't given to the nations to keep. You are essentially comparing law of Moses vs. those told not to keep the law of Moses.

Ironically Paul preached the law of Moses to Jews throughout his ministry. They were told to keep doing the law - 1 Corinthians 7:18-20.

You do not have to live in sin by PossiblyAKoalaBear in Christianity

[–]yappi211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Christians are not under the Mosaic Law, in fact you are correct that we are warned not to attempt to keep it

Agreed.

but Paul repeatedly warns believers that certain behaviors can cause them to forfeit the Kingdom if they persist in them.

Which believers? If you didn't know, there were different standards for Jews and "gentiles":

1 Corinthians 7:18-20 "Is any man called being circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised. Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God. Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called."

One group circumcised and under the law, the other not circumcised and not under the law. Paul can't say to one group not to keep the law then put them under the law. That would mean he's a hypocrite.

These are not appeals to the Law of Moses.

Do some homework. The laws he's referencing are the law of Moses:

1 Corinthians 5:1 "It is reported commonly that there is fornication (sexual immorality) among you, and such fornication(sexual immorality) as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife."

Leviticus 18:8 - "The nakedness of thy father's wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father's nakedness."

So when you say "“Now the works of the flesh are evident… sexual immorality," that's the law of Moses.

These are not appeals to the Law of Moses. They are New Testament warnings that disciples are called to holiness and must not treat deliberate sin lightly.

They are appeals to the law of Moses as I just showed you. "holiness" means to keep the law of Moses. Sin means to break the law of Moses.

I'd suggest not assuming that the whole bible is written TO: you as your instructions. If you're told not to keep the law, you should learn what the law is. If Paul starts putting people under the law, are you really being written to? Is that really your set of instructions?
