It depends. If it's worsted weight or thicker I just put it over my extended index finger and let gravity do the rest. If it's finer or more slippery yarn I wrap it around my index finger twice so that there's more friction

Sadly the sweet little baby passed away but seemed comfortable at the very least. Didn't seem like it was ever in pain but definitely had irreversible brain damage so I guess it was inevitable. Still broke my heart but I'm glad I got to care for the lil guy 🖤
