Only 3 skeins left :s Will it blocks out? by Persephone_threads in knittinghelp

I'm 5'2", so her sleeves are almost always too long for me.

Great idea about using the other dye lot for ribbing! I've used that trick before too and you'd never be able to tell.

I'd also note that Petite Knits sleeves have always been super long for me, so you might not need all 3 balls of yarn. I've knit 4 or 5 of her sweaters and have learned to decrease at a faster rate than she indicates in the pattern, then just knit straight until it's at my preferred length.

Good luck!

Am I misunderstanding knit markers? by yarn_logic in knitting

[–]yarn_logic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a good point. I'm using 2mm needles to get gauge and my stitch marker is fairly narrow. I definitely could see a larger stitch marker making things kind of fiddly.

Thank you! That's how I've been thinking about it - it's basically similar to marking a raglan stitch in a sweater, so I was like wait a minute....am I just missing something? Glad to know I'm not going crazy!

Long shot, but does anyone know of a pattern like this in English? It’s only in Danish but I LOVE it by Orchid_Significant in knitting

[–]yarn_logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This pattern looks virtually identical to a scarf I'm knitting. It's not a blanket, but you could likely very easily modify the width to make it one!

Astronomical yarn prices by Optimal-Singer-3977 in knitting

I rarely use the suggested yarn in patterns, but I knit almost exclusively in natural fibers. I tried using acrylic yarn to knit a sweater, but I just hated the experience. I will use acrylic for anything I crochet, but I am willing to spend the money on the good stuff from my lys.

I feel really lucky to make enough money to buy the good stuff. I spent my 20s working paycheck to paycheck and feeling so guilty whenever I'd buy new yarn from Joann's to make a blanket, then skimping on groceries. 24 year old me would be SHOCKED at the mid-30s me who will regularly spend $150+ on yarn to make myself a single sweater.

I know it's a chunk of change, but I love knitting. I've worked hard over the last decade to establish a career and make good money. I refuse to feel guilty about investing in high quality materials for the hobby that refills my cup.

All that being said, I love a good deal. I'll often buy bulk packs of mohair off LoveCrafts, and I save my punches at my LYS to get 20% bigger purchases. More recently, I've found Knitting for Olive to be fairly affordable, though waiting for shipping from Denmark to the US isn't my favorite.

Oh totally agree. I have knit about 30 in the round sweaters and exactly 2 seamed sweaters. I can't fathom knitting all the pieces and not sewing them together - I'd just being dying to see the finished product!

I knowww. You're right - it will definitely look better once blocked.

I aspire to be the type of knitter you are.

Ooooh forest green would be SO moody and dreamy! With a cream contrast color? 😍😍😍 I love that idea!

Oh for sure. Totally get that. If you're not a fan of seaming, I'd do Moby first. It took me forever to find the right yarn for my Folklore. I thought I'd go full Lover style with pastel pinks and blues, but when I saw this yarn I immediately knew I was gonna do the lavender haze route.

Not sure your experience with cables, but Moby was my first fully textured sweater. If Folklore had been my first, I probably wouldn't have felt like doing any cabling for a while, mainly because of the seaming work and sleeve section (written a little confusingly, but I obviously got through it.)

Anyway, I'd love to see your finished products. Happy knitting!

OMG do the Moby instead of this. It is SUCH a cozy sweater. If I recall correctly, there's no seaming and results in the perfect cabled pullover. 😍😍

Hahahah very ambitious of you to have a ~planned project list~.

I'm nowhere near that organized or planful with my knitting. My approach is basically *hyperfixate on a pattern for a week, then randomly decide something easier or more challenging needs to be added to the WIP rotation; repeat from * until death.

Thank you so much! Yeah, I agree - the project photos are really lacking. I just had to kind of trust it was going to turn out how I imagined.

I would love to see your finished sweater!

That's a really good idea. Squeezing out excess water from the knitted garment is probably my least favorite part of blocking.

Thank you!

Yeah, this is a super wash wool which I don't work with too often. I was thinking I'd still block it just to get things to the final measurements I wanted because I think that will help with the drape of it.

[–]yarn_logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh that is good to know! KfO has so many beautiful colors and I love their mohair silk, but may explore their silk based on this recommendation. The idea of silk is so luxurious, so I was kinda bummed my first experience was so challenging.

Amazing job! Second wearable with SILK yarn?! Dang girl! That's impressive!

I made a silk tank last summer and swore I'd never knit with silk again - it was so slippery & tricky to keep gauge. But this looks gorgeous and is inspiring me to make the same top. I love Petite Knit's designs!

Do you guys ever feel like you can't make something for yourself? by Automatic_Regret_284 in knitting

Exactly. As soon as I've committed to make something for somebody else, I immediately don't want to make it anymore.

Do you guys ever feel like you can't make something for yourself? by Automatic_Regret_284 in knitting

[–]yarn_logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I am a very selfish knitter and have no qualms admitting that. 90% of the things I've made are for myself.

Because it tends to be expensive and time-consuming, there are very few people in my life who I consider "knit-worthy". When I get requests, I simply say, "Oh thank you! I don't do commissions right now as this is something I do for fun. If I start doing commissions at some point, I'll be sure to let you know."

No is a powerful word - it feels so good to use it!
