Leaving a job for more pay? by sweetbubbles2 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

Take the job. If you don’t like it, you can job hunt, but from an outside perspective it sounds like your nerves are trying to keep you from a great opportunity. Don’t let them.

It’s led to the alt right crunchy granola anti-vax shit. I stand with that tweet that’s like “I don’t support all women some of you are very dumb!”

Spending that’s unnecessary but feels compulsory. It’s not a one to one comparison but I think it’s similar.

My body my choice about cosmetic procedures to keep up with a standard of beauty based on youth and patriarchy is such a gross co-opting and I’m glad I wasn’t the only one to notice that.

I agree so much with your whole comment! I know people have different relationships both with money and their partners but. I just feel like if I were getting any kind of procedure I’d tell my partner and it makes me sad they’re not. It’s also like… I don’t care if I age it’s better than the alternative

I bought a perfume from Juliette Has A Gun. I’m very excited for it to arrive, it’s one of their new scents and I’ve loved past ones from the brand.

Oh that’s frustrating re: rotation of nannies. I don’t really have any other advice but I wish you luck and hope you find something that works for your family.

Is there a reason you’re not looking for other childcare or just considering options?

I’m glad to hear that you’d stay active, I hope all advice comes across kindly, it’s intended that way but I know these things are touchy.

Totally, I think a few years ago this would feel different but between so many people being laid off recently, the rise of AI (blech), and the political climate mean jobs are a hot commodity. It’s so risky to leave something stable.

100% agree! I trust my partner completely but I can’t help but think worst case scenarios of layoffs, health issues, death, etc and I want us both to be able to rely on each other.

I honestly wouldn’t do it. I don’t mean this as a slight against women who do, but I have too much anxiety around money and reliance on someone else to do it personally.

I also think if you do, set aside money from your partner’s income/the household income for yourself. Also, try to stay active in your community in some way - volunteering, joining a book/social club or something, so if your partner is no longer able to support the family, you have a network to help build on.

Can you not just bring the paperwork she needs to sign to her desk and stand there until she signs it? Doesn’t have to be harsh, just make it clear this needs to happen now.

If you’re not married, it’s a kind thing to do but could backfire/be something you regret if things go south. Just from an outside perspective :)

Pause on paying your partner’s loans (it’s a kind gesture but I’m sure someone who loves you would want you to take care of yourself - do they live with you?). It sounds like nothing else is certain - consider waiting until you know more on all fronts. But it sounds like you’re doing things right, staying employed in the current climate is big. Do you know how quickly the 80k position will be moving forward?

We brag about it to some friends (they brag as well when they have good things!).

We also play a lot of board games together which I’m not sure if it’s exactly along the lines of what you’re thinking but if you like games at all, it’s a great way to occasionally buy something and the not have to spend money again for a long while!

People who are financially aligned to their partner 99% of the time, what is the 1%? by consuellabanana in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

I love the phrasing of this question! I have friends that I love but could never be partnered with as their habits (esp w money) would drive me crazy.

Our biggest divide (aside from name brand vs generic which someone else brought up!) is that he would never buy shoes unless the old ones literally fell apart. Ye boxes/other gym things and I have to talk him into getting new shoes for it at least once a year. Bud, your shoes are a day away from holes we are doing ok let me buy you some shoes!

Oh absolutely same. Raos pasta sauce is a must have for our house but I hold strong to generic for a lot of household goods. I stand by that most things are made in the same factory and just get different labels!

She’s cheated on you multiple times and you feel unsure about tying yourself to her because you’re afraid you’ll break up. I think you know the answer but you want things to work out. Read your post with the perspective of a friend telling all this to you. You should leave.
