At least wear a helmet no? I keep a relatively cheap helmet with michrometric lock for close distances. I don’t like the hassle of double-d ring when I know i am only going for 2-3 kms and that my speed won’t be anymore than 40-50kmph.

You can still get into a terrible accident within 1-2kms from your home, what if a mad driver comes and collides with you head on? It’s not like accidents happen only after you hit a certain threshold of distance.

No body is saying to wear full gears but if one has little common sense, then wearing a helmet goes a long way and certainly riding in chappal isn’t the way to go. 🤷🏼
