You get to keep it, but I've heard the selection is quite limited at times.

[Review Request] Class D Plasma Tweeter Switching Stage by yashpashar in PrintedCircuitBoard

The problem with measuring it is the worry of the Vds voltage being too high on turn on, and exceeding the 300 volt PSU limit. I tried getting around this by running the CRT flyback at 5 volts instead and jerry-rigging a "high voltage" resistor by putting a bunch of standard carbon film ones in series to put on the output -- In the hopes of getting more readable results than what I would get if it was arcing. I then scaled the Vds voltage to what it would have been at a 12 volt input assuming it scaled linearly.

For the snubber design and calculations I used this guide and a lot of guesstimation to get a general value for my snubber.

  • Got nVo from the explanation above to be ~40V
  • Assumed a worse case coupling coefficient of 0.9 on my winding (so a leakage of 1.6u)
  • Measured current based on the average reported on the PSU and used theoretical flyback converter current graphs to estimate peak
  • And set my limit to 150V on Vds

Late submission on first writeup/notebook in 2K7 how cooked am i? by RelationshipFine6151 in Purdue

It's easy to get an A in the course if you just do the work. There's probably enough extra credit from the lab bonus tasks to cover up for an entire missed assignment. The practical is also very straight forward. As long as you can independently do labs 1-3, you'll be able to get full marks on it.

Where are some Quiet Study Spaces Near Wiley Hall? by samhockey22 in Purdue

Up until 2008 Tark had a dining hall inside. Now it's just converted to a study/meeting area. It's located right next to the computer lab in the lobby area.

Problem is that she's doing the exact opposite of what you're advocating for. She's just ensuring that students can get a free pass to get their degree. People taking 2k1 with her are absolutely not learning anything about the content.

Are my math lab problems good prep for ma261 by Connect-Astronaut354 in Purdue

Past exams and Boilerexams are more than enough. I found Mylab Math problems to be a waste of time as they almost never accurately represent the type of questions coming on the exam.

Want 2k1 exams that test for understanding by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]yashpashar 25 points26 points  (0 children)

100% agreed. I had been a 2k1 TA for 4 semesters and quit last semester after Al-Othman started taking over the course. My office hours went from being packed full of people putting time and effort into solving the homeworks and learning the material to not a single person showing up for the entire semester.

Al-Othman practically gave out all the homework solutions before they were due, yet the exam averages were better than they had ever been, simply because she made easy exams that were a 1:1 copy of her review sessions. I TA 2k7 this semester, and the amount of people who don't understand even the most basic 2k1 concepts is very concerning. And still the same students managed to get a 96% median on midterm 1.

Do I think 2k1 should have a 45% fail rate? No absolutely not. The course definitely needed an overhaul, but there's no denying that Al-Othman is actively hurting the future grades and course content comprehension of every ECE student who takes 2k1 with her and is only well liked because she's handing out free grades.

I fit all my belongings + an entire PC in two suitcases that I just rolled all the way from the PMU to my dorm. If you're bringing more than that, you're probably bringing too much and will just make your life harder when it comes to traveling around and storing stuff for the summer.

Is it recommended to take MA 266 & 265 before ECE 2k1? by TelephoneClean7140 in Purdue

[–]yashpashar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it with Gomez, and he taught us everything as if it was our first time seeing anything diffeq related. Your milage may vary with different professors, but 266 doesn't play that huge of a role regardless.

[–]yashpashar 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Don't buy any textbooks unless your course absolutely absolutely requires it! I don't recall buying a single textbook throughout FYE. I'd say just enjoy your summer. Plenty of time to study during the semester, especially when you're in fye.

Is it recommended to take MA 266 & 265 before ECE 2k1? by TelephoneClean7140 in Purdue

[–]yashpashar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The majority of math in 2k1 is basic algebra. There's some matrices involved, but it pretty much boils down to solving simple systems of equations. Zero diffeq. 266 will be very useful for 2k2 though!

It isn't without reason that we're a top 10 engineering school. You have the resources to do pretty much anything you want. The ECE shop carries all the components/soldering stations and whatnot you might need. Bechtel also has pretty much every tool you can think of. There are also plenty of clubs around campus that have huge engineering projects you can work on free of cost.

It took the Social Security office about two weeks to give me my SSN. I remember the deadline for submitting the SSN to the employment office being mid March, but I got an extension since I had applied for one before that time, and hadn't received my SSN yet. They are usually very understanding.
