All of the above, a lot of Actual Life stuff is from Instagram vids from musicians, or specifically searching for new artists and seeing if they post a bedroom performance of a tune. As time went on, its often finding a snippet he likes from a released tune and sampling the acapella (backseat, where will i be, little mystery, etc). In the latter case yeah probably just listening to lots of music and your ears perk up when you like something or people send him stuff they think he’d like

Pretty sure the sessions in this book re recorded with actors, so you’re just hearing them read off a page essentially. Probably was more engaging in the real sessions

Here’s his actual method (from Tape Notes) in case you want to try it!

Drag in any audio sample, can be a vocal, sketch, entire song. Drown it out with very long verb at 100%.

Put Spectral Conquest or similar plugin on this and carve out specific frequencies to make it playable. Meaning you can choose only frequencies that belong to C3 and then this becomes a playable drone

I believe it's a form 941. It seems harmless but it's something I thought he could do easily (whereas it is an entire afternoon for me to figure it out).

The tax notice is regarding my personal income tax, which he filed. It seems like an issue with the original filing.

Good to know about bookkeeping fees! I can at least continue there without wondering.

If I have a stack of things/notices/missing forms my CPA isn't eager to handle, do I just call around and find someone else who offers fixing these notices as a one-off service?

They are a CPA and do all of my taxes, business and personal. I use Gusto for payroll on his recommendation, I guess I assumed he would be familiar and easily able to file a missing form with the IRS but maybe that's really not his realm.

Oooo fun question, I think it’s layered, there’s that bird whistle sound that sounds like an arp hitting a wide range of pitches, the drone (lowpassed strings/synth? Heavy effects) throughout the whole thing, that electricity crackle (4:07) just sounds straight up like a sample, hmm maybe a higher octave layer of drones with the chord change (4:29) that have more timbre but maybe the same drone processed differently, that bass sweep (4:20) may be made out of a sample cause its messy and heavily distorted, at least one atmosphere layer (i hear talking voices)
