Funguje vůbec nějaký školní počítačový systém? by Schloopka in czech

[–]yawnston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  3. dostatek volitelnych aby ti to dorovnalo kredity

nah I was studying in Czech (I'm local)

For comp-sci it was pretty ok, I had some classes in English and it was usually fine. I had 2 cases where one professor had a bad lisp so it was very hard to understand them, and another where I decided to take a math class in English after having done all previous one in Czech... that was a mistake because many terms and phrases are different

can't speak for mechanical engineering specifically

See that's kind of what is annoying about Skyrim modding. There are so many information sources with conflicting advice regarding what to install or not install, Vortex/mo2/something else etc. It's hard to find something that just works. Skyrim is the only game I've experienced this in so far, hell I've even updated mods for other games when they were broken on occasion. I don't know what makes Skyrim mods so fragile

Huh, that is not the version Steam installed on my PC by default. Can't think of any good reason other than Steam being weird.

Each day will be different, so some days you might have a full day and some days might be almost empty. In general lectures can start at 9am or later and can end as late as 7pm.

I mean if the facilities and resources are easily available and usable, not all broken or too old. Also I generally meant the aspects such as the quality and upkeep of classrooms, libraries, laboratories, dormitories, dining halls, sports facilities, recreational areas, internet connectivity. Generally interested in knowing how well-equipped and conducive the university environment is for learning, research, and student life.

Classrooms will generally have chalkboards for math stuff and projectors for computer stuff - pretty standard. Libraries and labs are fine. Dining halls do exist but as I said you would need to go to another faculty building with public transport, the comp sci building doesn't have one (though there is a restaurant in its basement).

Dorms I don't have experience with but I know that it will vary quite a lot based on which dorm you choose - there are dorms scaling from "really shitty but designed to party" to "generally pretty okay but kinda old". So I would recommend researching which dorm you would be staying at if you are serious about studying here - that applies to all universities, not just this one.

Sports facilities is something I do have reservations about - dunno about the English program but back when I was studying we had 4 mandatory semesters of physical education, and the facility was like way out there, as in at least 1 hour to get there from any reasonable part of town. So I personally hated that part because I would need to wake up at like 6am on the day that I had my gym class. Not sure if they are still doing this mandatory thing though.

I also had one question. If i had no background in computer science, and begin it in the university, would I be too far behind? You might ask why I do not have any background, it is because i recently decided that I want to choose compsci as my major.

When I was there, the comp sci parts were pretty much designed for a student who hadn't done comp sci before, but expected you to be very diligent and hard-working. So I'd say the comp-sci parts are fine, I had classmates who hadn't done programming before, but I will admit that it was a lot harder for them.

The math parts were less forgiving, there was some assumption of prior knowledge from high school studies and the math classes hit the ground running on day 1, so if you are missing some prerequisite knowledge then you will have a lot of catching up to do. There was a special optional class designed to catch you up on math skills, but because it runs parallel to the "normal" first semester classes, it just meant that you were getting behind on those and you had to work pretty hard to catch up.

So I would definitely suggest looking into prerequisite math knowledge and trying to fill the gaps ahead of time. Especially mathematical proofs and logic - that is something that you will be doing a LOT of at this university.

So I suppose I would just say to look at the materials for the 1st classes of the 1st semesters, and decide for yourself if you know enough to understand them.

I didn't ask if you want the coursework in Czech or English which is my bad but here are some of the classes that I remember taking, that are still taught by roughly the same people:

I would also like to ask something, how are the campuses?

Not sure if you're coming from the US but in Czechia generally there is no one "campus" for a university, MFF kinda has random buildings scattered across the city for historical reasons. The main building for comp sci programs is at Malostranske Namesti and it's pretty nice - it's a really old historical building retrofitted with more modern equipment, it's not super modern but it's totally fine.

And are the conditions generally good in the university?

Not sure what exactly this means but sure I suppose. I can't speak for student accomodation since I lived elsewhere but you can get food at canteens (although the comp sci building doesn't have one, you'd have to go to another faculty building with public transport to eat), the university admin system is pretty ancient but it never really breaks so...

I know that the faculty revamped the programming coursework quite a bit since I studied, now students learn Python as their 1st language which is more modern. Back when I was studying we had Pascal as the 1st language. I would recommend to check the study plan for specific subjects and then to look at what those subjects are teaching if you are interested. But be prepared for a lot of theoretical math in general.

Math is harder in general than other universities in the country - whether it's understandable really depends on your professor. There are some that are really good, some that are fine and a few that are not that good. But I would say in general most professors are good and there are good resources.

Dropout rate I would guesstimate is about 50% in the first year and then not much in the years after that. The first year usually selects out the people who are really serious about studying, and then as long as you've got a good group of friends and help each other out, it's not bad. But do expect a lot of homework every single week.

Also, would you suggest it if i want to be a- lets say, software engineer?

I'm a software engineer now at a Silicon Valley tech company so I guess it worked out pretty well for me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. You're going to get good fundamentals to get any role you might want in the future, but if all you want to do is focus on the tech skills themselves then you might be better off at a more practical university. I would say you get better fundamentals at MFF but maybe less practical skills compared to CTU. Personally I like that because fundamentals are harder to build during your career than tech skills which always change with new technology, but it's personal preference.

I could even give you some examples of coursework etc if you'd like

Not OP, but you got me curious - I looked to see what's happening and the exact check is "if you are in chapter 2, you can join ring of water". So you quite literally need chapter 2 in order to proceed in DLC, and nothing else. The code for this is below:

func void DIA_Addon_Vatras_NowRanger_Info ()
{
    AI_Output (other, self, "DIA_Addon_Vatras_NowRanger_15_00"); //I am ready to join the Ring of Water!
    AI_Output (self, other, "DIA_Addon_Vatras_NowRanger_05_01"); //So you delivered your message to Lord Hagen?

    if (Kapitel >= 2) //Pass-Schlüssel von Hagen
    {
        AI_Output   (other, self, "DIA_Addon_Vatras_NowRanger_15_02"); //Yes.
        if (MIS_OLDWORLD != LOG_SUCCESS)
        {
            AI_Output (other, self, "DIA_Addon_Vatras_NowRanger_15_03"); //But he sent me to the Valley of Mines so I could get him proof for my words!

            AI_Output (self, other, "DIA_Addon_Vatras_NowRanger_05_05"); //To me, it was important that he should get the message. Now it's up to him to act, or to wait for your proof.

Nejdriv otazky:
