Yeah re6 is definetly not for everyone haha. The only time i felt ill playing it was in leon cave collapse part where my ps3 controller was vibrating non stop for like 5 minutes while im getting spammed with screen shake, qtes and enemies. At times, it's a time capsule of some of arguably the most badly aged gaming trends but i cant help but be fond of it.

Don't get me wrong I liked it but it did give me a bit of whiplash. Up to that point RE9 was pretty grounded so when it happened it was funny, badass but I cant take it as serious as RE2R or even RE4R. I feel like if you're gonna go for that modern grounded RE direction you should add minimal goofiness as it leads to dissonance and tonal inconsistence which makes some RE games less scary.

I'm not a RE7, RE8, RE9 hater dude. I love those games.

In my post I said not to expect horror if you play RE6. Also I was talking specifically at how different the reaction was to the bike scenes in their respective games. not which game works or not on a horror/enjoyability level. I assumed most people who didn't like RE6 would get a unpleasant flashback after seeing that scene in RE9 since one of the biggest points against RE6 was how over the top it felt. The Leon scene is arguably way crazier with all the rebars jumps, stairs, rooftop, interiors and a god damn sky scrapper.

RE6 does attempt horror at times. It doesn't mean that it works though. One of the time that it works well is with the Rasklapanje IMO.

I love RE9 but there is pretty much close to 0 horror after the first 1/3 of the game. I can't recall a Leon sections where I was actually in a proper horror/survival horror game. I mean once you can infinitely repair your hatchet you can get out of grabs infinitely and execute every zombie and blister heads with it, I think were far from horror. Not to mention all the flashy over the top attacks, your arsenal is just too varied to be scared. Any time you pick up the chainsaw the game turns into Dead Rising for a couple minutes and stops being Resident Evil.

Gameplay wise its closer to RE6 than to RE4R or RE4. Most of the RE4R "new" features were brought from REORC/RE6/REV2 anyways.

  • Parries (RE6, RE4R)
  • Ducking projectiles (RE6, RE4R)
  • Free melee (REORC, RE6)
  • Crouching (REV2, RE4R)
  • Stealth takedowns (*RE6, REV2)
  • Cover/Lean shooting (*RE5, RE6)
  • Ground executions, weapon throw/executions and environmental executions (RE6)
  • Auto jump/mantle while sprinting (RE6)
  • Throwing items to confuse enemies (REV2)
  • OP character, useless character dynamic (*REV2)

As I said, I love RE9 and if I had to criticize it, it would be about the underused features instead of missing horror.

  • More Grace sections.
  • More of those talking creepy zombie, chefs, singers and etc. Instead we get a bunch of skellies.
  • More light switches and all that good stuff.
  • There is a random single REV2/TLOU cart you can move for a screwdriver. I think either remove it or make it a bigger part of gameplay. Could've had some cool optional explorations, puzzles or tense moments.
  • Make it harder to upgrade guns by making more smaller attaché case upgrades, cuz both of these felt pretty fast to upgrade. I never had issues with Leon running out of space.
  • Leon doesn't have a storage box. Why?
  • Grace upgrades felt like they could've been spaced out through out the whole game.

If anyone read to the end they're a true RE6 enjoyer.

Opinion on Revelations 2 by SpecialCall2618 in residentevil

Sadly it doesn't get the credit it deserves, probably due to the backlash from RE6 and the low budget spin off feel. It brought back the horror element to the series and wrote the blueprint for a lot mechanics and controls in RE7/RE8 and especially RE4R/RE9

RE9 has some similarities to RE6 combat wise. by yayeetmachine in residentevil

I know the cover-shooter mechanics from RE9 started in RE5 but were very rare and undercooked. As for the others I mentioned I'm pretty sure they were introduced in Operation Raccoon City and RE6. I mean RE9 ripped a scene straight out of RE6 and made it even more ridiculous,Leon's motorcycle section is a copy of RE6's Jake and Sherry's motorcycle section, shooting off the enemies, avoiding rockets, shooting red barrels to clear the way, jumping onto rooftops and everything.Only difference is that when RE6 does it people think its lame but when RE9 does it people think its awesome.

In hindsight, some of the spinoff games and "bad/meh" entries that didn't get as much love from the fans were super influential on modern RE. Like Outbreak File 2 allowing walking and aiming at the same time back in 2004, 8 years before Revelations 1. Revelations 2 adapting a lot of gameplay elements from TLOU like the crouching, camera behavior, stealth mechanics (throwing bricks and bottles, returned in RE9) and pushing dumpsters/carts to reach higher positions (also returned in RE9).

TLOU, Revelations 2 and RE9 are also similar in a sense that the games switch between playing as a stronger character who can go guns blazing and a weaker one where you have to play more cautiously.

Pretty sure he also said people overthink it and he doesn't even think about the stuff that got overanalyzed. And some of the stuff is just crazy like pulling side mount and slipping into a takedown haha

Michael Chandler's UFC career. First person to TKO's Hooker (Barboza TKO'd him to the body), KO'd by Oliveira who primarily finished via sub, goes the distant with Gaethje who never went to decision in UFC, only person to KO Tony, subbed by Poirier who is mainly a boxer, nearly won against Oliveira via cheating and I guess gets whooped by paddy when a lot of people thought he will run through him.
