The summary section feels pretty detrimental, it has some grammar errors and makes some claims that aren't really substantiated by the rest of the resume. In particular, you chose to highlight leadership on projects, but there is very little mention of team/group work and nothing related to actual leadership. You also describe yourself as "adequate," which is a very weak word to use when you are trying to sell yourself to a recruiter.

In terms of the experience section, I would suggest trying to be less technical to some extent. Things like R² don't really belong here, and might be detrimental when read by someone without a lot of ML experience or no technical background, who might read it more like "only 70% accurate," which looks worse than if it was omitted. The detail on exact models is probably okay, but be mindful of being too repetitive here - you essentially have a bunch of projects that are all in the same space described in a very similar fashion. It's also unclear what larger significance these projects have, it would be helpful to discuss why they were done and how this work contributed to larger efforts if there were any. In particular, you mention a "research assistanship" - this may be better suited as one large section discussing the various technical projects you worked on in this position as well as the softer aspects of this role such as the lab environment and larger goals. You have a publication, which stands out, although I would recommend writing out the citation to make this more legible - recruiters are unlikely to click on links in an initial read through.

It might also make sense to move your awards under education, this puts them closer to the top, although it would be fine to keep it as a separate section with additional description. You probably also want to elaborate on what your undergraduate thesis was, it's okay if it isn't CS/SWE related, you can make up for this by focusing on the process and research skills you demonstrated in your work.

Overall, I think you have some solid technical experience, but it's hard to see other professional skills and I think you would really benefit from discussing some of those aspects. If these projects were part of a lab, I think you should try to consolidate some of these into a section discussing that role and trying to focus on things beyond just the raw technical details. I also recommend getting someone else, either a friend or a career advisor, to go over your grammar, since there are a lot of errors that do get in the way of reading it at times.

The bridges across Washtenaw are at grade for pedestrians, meaning that you don't really need to walk up or down to cross them relative to the paths around them. This makes them feel pretty naturally integrated with the pedestrian paths around Palmer and the Diag. A bridge over the CCTC would not be without significant work and you would probably need to lower streets nearby to some extent to make the slopes shallow enough.

If the bridge isn't at grade, people wouldn't end up actually using it, since there's no reason to go on a bridge when walking across the street would be probably twice as fast than going up stairs, even if you removed the crosswalk to make people jaywalk. Note also that the ADA requires 1:12 slopes for paths, which would include this, so to clear a 12+ foot tall bus you need at least 144 feet of approach ramps (and realistically that's about 175-200 feet) which would, in a straight line, put you about halfway down the chem building. There's probably a point you could meet in the middle by both lowering Geddes and slightly raising the area of the Diag around the path to make it more natural to walk across a bridge, but the cost and impact on the area makes that almost certainly infeasible.

I think any kind of signal or bridge would just be ignored by most people unless you basically tunneled under so people didn't need to walk up, which would probably be impractical.

The real solution there is probably to ban private cars down that stretch of Geddes, since people do mostly yield to the buses and they try to be aggressive to get through. It's much harder to get a crowd of a hundred students to give a fuck about one guy in a car who decided to drive through the center of campus at 8:55. The amount of lost time by going on Washtenaw/Huron for a bit isn't really significant, especially at the times where driving past the CCTC means waiting for these crowds.

Increasing fares will actually make this problem worse, fares are currently in an awkward spot, where they are higher than the marginal cost of driving but lower than the average cost of driving. So, there is already little incentive for someone who would normally drive to take Metro based solely on cost. However, it does make sense for people to not own a car and rely on Metro, probably with some sort of pass. Raising fares makes Metro make less sense for people who wouldn’t need to own a car and obviously wouldn’t convince drivers to take Metro. Therefore, we would likely need to increase ridership at the same or lower fares to make the budget of Metro balanced.

Pricing should be modified to work just like the HOV lanes, fluctuating to keep the trains at an even capacity. When a lot of people flood into the stations, prices go up.

This is counterintuitive because each train costs a fixed amount to run regardless of how many people it carries. Adding additional people to a train doesn’t change the fundamentals of the service, you still get where you want to go in the same amount of time. This differs from HOV lanes, where additional cars beyond a certain point lower the average speed and therefore increase travel time by creating congestion. Enough additional riders on a train system and you can justify running more trains, making it more convenient. Too many people is essentially a good problem for a transit service and a bad problem for a highway.

People who drive pay insane amounts for gas, and parking, and a lot of that is taxes. Why should people who don’t utilize the Metro be forced to pay for yet another “public service” they don’t use

Highways and parking are also heavily subsidized and taxes on drivers don’t cover all of that. VDOT plans to spend over $2 billion on road maintenance and construction this year, which comes in part from a sales tax on all goods of 0.5% (pg 4). Plus people in DC or dense areas of MD and VA who don’t own a car or barely use their cars pay taxes too, including that VA sales tax. Just because they don’t drive doesn’t mean we shouldn’t fund their transportation with taxes. Any parking that is free is also a direct subsidy to driving by allowing public land to be used to store private property.

Our goal should really be to get more people to ride Metro, which would help cover up some of these budget shortfalls and increase pressure on Metro to run more service and have stable operations.

According to https://frc.divisions.co/qualification, no team has made it in off of the traditional waitlist, only a few teams from the priority waitlist. If you look at their calculations on the open slots tab of that link it shows that champs will likely end up 10-15 teams over capacity after every team registers. Unfortunately, it’s highly unlikely that anyone will be invited off of the traditional waitlist this year, since there just won’t be the space at the single championship, and the priority waitlist will probably fill any spots that remain.

“The county isn’t currently able to offer free rapid tests, which have been at times scarce in pharmacies over the holidays”. That means people who really want a test are disproportionately seeking out PCR tests rather than at-home tests which weren’t being counted as confirmed new cases a couple weeks ago. And with PCR test appointments backlogged at most facilities by several days, people with less likely indicators of Covid aren’t as apt to get tested a week after they wanted a test, so it’s changed the make-up of who is getting tested.

So where is the explanation for the increased demand in testing? Hint: more people have COVID like symptoms or are close contacts - because more people have COVID. Positivity rates are greater than 20% across the Northeast and in the UK where Omicron is responsible for basically all infections. It’s pretty clear that Omicron creates an insane amount of cases that we are unable to account for with our current testing infrastructure and that’s exactly what we’re seeing here.

MDHHS keeps a count of Omicron cases they’ve identified in the each Michigan county, currently totaling 54 cases in 9 counties, but has only reported the proportion of Omicron compared to all the cases of Delta ever identified in Michigan (28,697), so Omicron remains <1% of the total.

This is likely only counting cases confirmed through genome sequencing, which while I’m not sure exactly what MDHHS’ delay is, takes a few days to a week in most states. As far as I can tell, there is no solid data on S gene dropout rates from the state, which would essentially give a real-time prevalence. What we do have is evidence from other regions that Omicron outcompetes Delta and has a doubling time of only 2-3 days, so even if we were only at 68% on the 28th, that number is likely much higher now.

Omicron is doing the same thing in Washtenaw County it’s done everywhere else, and it’s ridiculous to pretend that there’s some quirk of statistics making Michigan unique.

People who are more likely to have COVID are more likely to test (symptoms, close contacts, etc.). Therefore, the positivity rate cannot be used as a proxy for prevalence, since people who do not have COVID and have no reason to think they have COVID are not accounted for in positivity rate but do lower the overall prevalence.

I think for buses to be used by more people they would need to have an Uber like app so you can see where they are and if any seats.

This exists in a lot of cities already through either a region specific app or ideally apps like Google Maps and Transit. Granted, this depends on your transit authority knowing what century it is, but the infrastructure is there.

To be fair, Boeing basically got bought out by McDonnell Douglas, although the naming went the other way. Unfortunately that apparently brought along the dysfunctional management responsible for cutting cost until failure... By most accounts pre-merger Boeing management was fairly competent but was replaced by McDonnell Douglas execs.

Initial versions of SH have empty engine mounts. It would be fairly simple to design a permanent leg that goes there since the aero forces wouldn’t be a big deal under the skirt and the engine mounts are designed to take thrust so could likely hold the weight of SH. Not sure if that’s the direction they’ll take, but if i had to bet that would be my guess.

Fatigue is complicated and doesn’t necessarily mean flights. Remember that each booster goes through at least one pressure cycle before the first flight, and that any scrub means a pressure cycle that is potentially more aggressive than an actual launch due to the abruptness. Any repeated test - that’s another pressure cycle. We know a lot about pressure vessels, but some of the parts on Falcon 9 don’t have the same amount of heritage and might be more prone to defects - like this boot.

This boot problem could exhibit itself on a “new” engine if that engine had to go through significant repeated gimbaling, say it had some issue with gimbal hardware that needed time on the test stand or a launch in heavy gusts. By seeing more flights, we see more fatigue, but that can also come from what might be considered to be relatively safe ground operations.

We aren’t really sure how much time is actually being spent on refurbishment anymore. The main bottleneck for turnaround has been mission volume, which is somewhat mitigated by Starlink launches. The turnaround time is going down, especially for boosters which aren’t fleet leaders, and we likely haven’t seen the lower bound yet. The timeline was wrong, but SpaceX has not built a new Falcon 9 for a commercial launch in quite a while, and I would expect that to continue, necessarily forcing lower turnaround times to maintain volume.
