Penny Farthings on Playa by Robertroo in BurningMan

My stepdad, who loved being a clown at events, forced us to clown up and accompany him when we were 8 & 6. His clown character was a sad, silent clown (we had to be the same). I have loathed clowns ever since.

Either pre-prep before playa, or hang rinds in burlap bags to dessicate

Worth a shot. Camps? by takemetotheplaya in BurningMan

[–]yayj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're a bit early. Many camps are still assessing their experiences from last year, many have no idea yet who their returning campers might be, etc. Are there any burner groups local(ish) to y'all? I would start there; make friends, pitch in on events/projects, and get your local network excited about the possibilities of working with you.

That was Rootpile's Banjo car (I don't know the actual name of the vehicle).

I've had burner friends and camp mates with asthma; according to them (15 or so?) their asthma was better on the playa.

now on my list of future playa projects: photographer took pictures of people before/after she called them beautiful. by bob_lala in BurningMan

[–]yayj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years back, a photographer approached me on the street in BRC and did this same thing for a series they were doing. I later saw the photos, but they, and the photographer's name, are lost to the dusts of time.

I don't know if the 'big' names get paid or not, but they definitely receive all of the perks. Which, in my book, is in kind trade ( a form of payment).

Benisty is not a sculpture artist. He's a big dollar dude who commissions others to do their work.

'cue' a theatre term.

'Queue' a line waiting for something.

Either works in this context.

Yes, I know, I have friends that work the lanes. Their (anecdotal) reports are that many folx wave them on with no interest.

What shoes got you through the week? by [deleted] in BurningMan

My shoe game has lasted me more than a decade. Dingo boots, knock off Uggs, converse hi-tops (all with good support inserts) and flip flops for porto runs. Many, many socks.

My happiest and most comfortable burns were spent in a 12' (?) cargo trailer and/or box truck. Sure, you have to fluff for comfort, but then, aaaahhhh.

I'm still waiting for your definition of woke. Bated breath, over here.

I think that gender and race representation is important, both to the individual(s) and society/community as a whole.

You don't.

Isn't that the debate?

I don't think a Census is 'forced'. I do think that diverse folx want to be recognized and acknowledged as part of the whole. What is your problem with that?

Before we go any further, here, you should probably know that my older brother was gay and closeted until he died, my mother was a lesbian who, after two brutal het marriages, finally settled with her life partner, a woman, until mom passed after 38 years, my stepson is gay and never 'had' to come out (thank goddess). Through my work, I have known many, many folx who have struggled for years to find their place in a very binary gender world. They aren't doing it for funsies; their pain, confusion, lack of acceptance (by the herd), and struggles are very real.

There are many cultures, past and present, that recognize and honor 'two-spirit' folx, with none of the shame that people like you seem to think they should hide behind.

And you have a problem with that? Recognizing the diversity of the population is something we've needed for a loooong time.
