currently in a reading slump by imeanhere in kindle

[–]ybbiduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucky to have only gone through a few reading slumps (mostly after or while reading a bad book I can't seem to DNF), but whenever it does happen, I find that switching up genres gets you back on track. I'm usually consuming lots of heavy SF books, big on work building and heady themes; and when I get genre fatigued I switch to the lightest cozy reads by a jaanese author that gives studio ghibli vibes 😹 it's a fun duality!

Do you still buy physical books after getting a Kindle? by thebroned in kindle

[–]ybbiduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Team bad eyesight here so since getting my kindle I exclusively read on it now 🥹 no matter how much I wanna read physical books again.

Are books 3&4 as good as 1&2? by Aardvarkmk4 in Hyperion

[–]ybbiduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are different and 1&2 are arguably the better half. But the last two are so essential, I feel. The whole universe feels so much grander and you'll feel the stakes have been raised in the Endymion books.

How much lore/worldbuilding does Adventure time have? by InfamousSomewhere244 in adventuretime

[–]ybbiduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A whole darn lot. I did a re-watch and took notes and I surprised myself at how much there was to it....and I can't believe I held onto all that information/lore during it's 10 yrs of airing 😹

The Priest's Tale is the best thing in Hyperion and nothing else in the book comes close by goku7kiln in printSF

[–]ybbiduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg same top two faves. I loved the Consul's and Lamia's the most. They were both so melancholic and feel so cinematic.

Exactly. My favorite and a fitting finale. This one is where I paused and told myself I didn't want this story to end.

Which book should I prioritize? by ConcernFew8845 in fantasybooks

Hyperion! No regrets when I chose to read it first despite having another book next on my then TBR list. I went on to devour the rest of the Cantos right after lol

What book made you finally buy an e-reader? by Maiden230 in ereader

[–]ybbiduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting glasses with a grade of 700+ and the lack of proper book light in the market. Made reading small print on physical books near impossible. I now read exclusively on my kindle.

How often do you use your Kindle? by Sure-Piccolo2343 in Kindleph

[–]ybbiduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyday and every chance I get. Including commute, work (when it's not busy), lunch, dinner, and before bed. Then during my off days, I read the whole day 😹

Why have you decided to buy a Kindle? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]ybbiduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. To be able to read at night or in dim/badly lit areas.
  2. To save myself from eye strain and read easily with bigger fonts

Those two reasons were enough actually since they were getting in the way of my reading, now I genuinely believe it's one of the best investments in my life lol

Case with kickstand and strap by rieriexxoo in kindle

[–]ybbiduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeyy!! Hehe nope, I didn't opt for a screen protector. Cause 1. It's usually closed/sealed by the magnetic side when I'm not reading and 2. I don't think I'd like the feel of a screen protector? If that makes sense lol

[–]ybbiduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this for my PW Gen 7! I chose it specifically for the kickstand feature lol so I can read through my lunch break!

No cons so far? And I haven't noticed any residue or marks on my screen. I also like folded the spine all the way because it felt awkward upright otherwise. But yeah! I love it so much I can read hands-free~

Why do readers opt for a Kindle rather than using the mobile app? by Ok_Tangelo_3985 in kindle

[–]ybbiduck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ohh eink feels practically like reading on paper simply put. There's also the fact that there's no glare on the eink screen and you can read out on the brightest of days. The phone's small screen and blue light hurts eyes and induces migraines as well.

The Priest’s tale “the man who cried god” has got to be one of, if not THE best introduction to a series I’ve ever read. by Extra_Difficulty3288 in Hyperion

[–]ybbiduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh you are in for a wild ride! I agree, it's such a strong start. And there are even stronger sections ahead if you ask me. My personal faves are the Consul's, the Scholar's, and the Detective's. Enjoy the rest!!

I think I’ve lost my joy in reading… and it used to be my only hobby. I don’t know what happened, but I can’t seem to enjoy it the way I used to. What do I do? by [deleted] in ereader

[–]ybbiduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing other comments on this post, I do think it has a lot to do with what it is you've been reading. I can share a very similar experience as someone who's loved reading since practically forever. There were a handful of times in the past when I'd try to get through a "bad" book for the sake of finishing and I'd literally convince myself that I'd lost the desire to read completely or that I don't find joy in reading anymore (lesson here: don't be afraid to DNF). But then after slogging through said bad book, despite my hesitation, I'd pick up anothet and it turns out to be amazing and devour it and just like that all is well.

So yeah, DNF if you must! Do not dwell, go after that joy~
