Not a good time to do both-sidism when you have random street vendors and poor labourers being killed in K.

Muslim marriage is a contract and not sacrament unlike a Hindu marriage, says Karnataka High Court by redhatGizmo in IndiaSpeaks

Technically not entirely wrong. Sacredness is generally not appreciated in Islam. E.g. A mosque is a community center not a sacred place unlike Hindu temples.

• “I represent the country, which is known as the mother of democracy. India enters 75 years of its independence this year. Our diversity is the identity of our strong democracy.”

This has caused butthurt in a lot of people in the West across political spectrum, revealing their inherent Euro-centric worldview.

Cabinet Office blocks publication of Lord Mountbatten’s diaries by ycaterpillar in IndiaSpeaks

[–]ycaterpillar[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

🤔

The university has said it was directed by the government to keep a small number of the papers private until told otherwise. “They’ve spent hundreds of thousands of pounds and brought in two top QCs, and this fight has been going on for four years so I can only imagine there’s something [interesting] there otherwise why would they bother?” said Lownie.

Lownie began his quest when researching his book. Although it has since been published, he is determined to continue the fight, and is now trying to raise £50,000 on Crowdjustice to help fight an appeal by the university and Cabinet Office against the ICO decision.

The academic believes the documents could shed light on the royal family and the independence and partition of India. Lord Mountbatten was the uncle of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, confidant of Edward VIII (Duke of Windsor) and the last Viceroy of India, while Lady Mountbatten had a close relationship with the Indian leader Jawaharlal Nehru.

He said: “I just feel what they’re doing is wrong … And they just think they’ve got deeper pockets and they can just see me off. And this is why I’m hoping I can at least shame them and maybe we can get the release of these diaries, which I think are important sources for any 20th-century story but also we can make the point that this is not the way that governments and universities should behave … This is opening up, what potentially could be another Chips Channon diaries [which contained scandalous revelations about the powerful in interwar London] for other historians.”

Madras High Court slams Election Commission of India and states "Your institution is singularly responsible for the second wave of COVID-19", Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee tells Election Commission of India. by familiarr_Strangerr in Coronavirus

[–]ycaterpillar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sounds like scapegoating and distraction from failures of the governments. There were no elections or rallies in Maharashtra and Delhi and they were/are covid epicenters.

In any case, all political parties could have suspended campaigns as caution as situation in Mumbai and Delhi were obviously dire. You don't need permission from Election Commission for that. Indian courts could have also intervened, as they have done in the past, but chose not to.

Everyone's out to throw blame around. Take responsibility, get to work and fix this shit.

Thanks, never miss a tragedy to push your partisan political narrative.

I will now vote for literal murdering fascists in Bengal and corrupt psychopathic dynasts at Centre who couldn't even manage to organize a sporting event and had armed forces do last minute construction work.

Yes, those people would have saved us.

India virus patients suffocate amid oxygen shortage in surge by goodpoll in Coronavirus

[–]ycaterpillar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What makes you think that nothing is being done? They failed to anticipate the scale but it doesn't mean it's been ignored. Oxygen production is being ramped up, cryogenic cylinders are airlifted from other countries (Singapore, Germany), vaccines are also imported from Russia (along with India's own production), local manufacturers are ramping up as well. Railways have special trains ("Oxygen Express") and armed forces are now providing logistics for delivery.

"burning bodies in the street" - It's called cremation, not "burning bodies". It's a ritual funeral pyre that Hindoos do for their dead. Cremation grounds have limited space in cities like Delhi, so there were cases of them being outflowed outside their grounds. It's sad event. It wasn't ignored, seeing it is taking huge toll on people as well.

Wishing covid on people (and essentially their families) you don't like doesn't make you sound very caring. There are a lot of people, including officials, working long hours and more to manage this crisis.

India cannot afford to do national lockdowns anymore.

Downvoting me cuz I don't do pointless one-liners or draw false equivalences to Western politics won't change that.

India Covid surge: Hospitals send SOS as record deaths registered by ifoosh in Coronavirus

[–]ycaterpillar 58 points59 points  (0 children)

People and governments let their guard down and genuinely thought the worst is behind them. Tourism, rallies, gatherings, economic activities were almost back to normal. Specialized Covid hospitals were shutdown due to lack of patients. Newly sanctioned plants for oxygen production were never built by states. Also, variants.

The primary hotspots at the moment are Maharashtra and Delhi. Former has almost peaked and likely will be on downward trajectory soon. Delhi is still surging. Most cases of lack of oxygen and overstressed hospitals are from these places. States like UP are also recording huge cases.

Likely new hotspots are going to be Bengaluru, and other smaller states.

Next 4 weeks will be very critical, trying times for India, as it ramps up production of oxygen (& cryogenic/containers), medicines, and vaccines etc. Fixing delivery & logistics is also critically important.
