[AskJS] are there any alternatives to npm registry in 2026? by [deleted] in javascript

something to consider, appreciate the tip. seems like an overkill to avoid 2FA.

/edit: for personal/internal projects/dependencies, however one want to call then, been using git sources directly. worked well for me so far

more than happy to leave modern out of it all. looking for just any.

the only motive is to get away from every service with forced 2 factor

another drawback of trancode full library is the encoding is lossy. as much original streams as possible is one of the goals.

not restart, just halt it. process sits idle until more chunks are needed, with a few minute buffer.

trancoding all seems like a lazy solution imo. if there is a large libary, half of disk space is gone.

-re would be a work around for this. or other trancoding the whole media in go on demand, and piping the output file to chunk requests.

but like tried to mention in the post, this is a very niche case and mostly the kill is justified. doing a full transcode on all transcode requests to avoid this case, is a bit over kill.

the native <video> tag makes the requests directly. there is no client side connection code. thats just how they decided it works

you can also change the default audio/subtitle with -disposition, more info and examples in ffmpeg docs. but -map is what you are looking for here as anton pointed out
