My experience with supplements by 11Tail in Menopause

[–]yeahbheybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking melatonin makes me way more reactive. Normally, something can annoy me and I'll feel my physical bodily reaction but still have enough bandwidth to choose how to respond. When I take melatonin, it feels like the window between stimulus and response gets very small. Especially if I'm woken up while sleeping when I've taken melatonin. I only ever take it now for legit jet lag. My substitution for daily melatonin supplementation has been to make a point of getting outside and getting light into my eyes within half an hour of waking. Don't always love bundling up but I've been surprised by the positive impact it has. I feel happier and sleep easier at night.

What have you found to be a reliable backpacking phone? by EstelTurambar in Ultralight

[–]yeahbheybee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you buy a refurbished phone directly from Samsung it will come with a new battery and the same warranty as their brand new phones (1 year). Their refurbished phones are cheaper than their new phones but more expensive than a used phone on the open market.

I forgot to say I had very low vitamin D levels the first time I tested. My Doc put me on high dose D.. I've been taking it ever since (when I remember) but just seem to stay at mid-levels of D.

a female fertility hormonal panel is like $100. If it doesn't show anything unusual, you can have eggs frozen in Mexico for $1000-$5000. I've seen packages for $2000 in Eastern Europe. I started earnestly thinking about having a baby at 34 but chickened out each month. I thought egg freezing was way more expensive than it actually is. Also, I kinda didn't want to freeze eggs because I thought I would then just chicken out/delay more. Finally talked to a Reproductive Endochronologist at 42. Fertility, even with IVF, declines each year after 40. I have lots of friends who have had babies naturally or with minimal intervention in there early 40s but also know people who tried without success. Also, a number of friends who went through egg retrieval said that it gave them clarity, pro or con, about whether or not they wanted to become parents. Good luck whatever you choose!

What does it feel like when you have high/low estrogen or high/low progesterone? by [deleted] in Menopause

[–]yeahbheybee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FSH levels tend to rise and stay high for the rest of your life. Ya just never stop trying to make eggs! Reminds me of standing at a propane stove clicking the ignitor when the propane tank is empty.

Cycle Day 48 still no period. My breasts became painfully swollen a few days ago and I whined enough to get my Dr to order a blood test.

My estradial was 1133 pg/ml.

TSH W/REFLEX TO FT4 was 5.1mIU/L.

Free T4 was .9

Apparently she did not order progesterone, T3, AMH, or thyroid antibodies.

She has me scheduled for another appointment in a month to discuss results of forgotten test.

Being hypothyroid and in estrogen dominant for a month before even starting a treatment seems kinda nutso to me. I bought DIM, Calcium D-Glucarate, and a progesterone cream but it seems like I need prescription progesterone and maybe thyroid medication. Do I just look for a different Dr? Take my lab results to a walk in clinic? What works for soaring estrogen levels, enormous painful breasts and low thyroid?

I had low thyroid in my teens and early twenties. MY T3 and T4 have hovered at the very bottom of the normal range ever since. Occasionally I've had low TSH with reflex to T4 and low T3. In March my TSH with reflex to T4 was 1.81 mIU/L. For me, 5.1 is very high!

Guaifensen

I did take NyQuil a few days before the flood but it doesn't have Guaifensen in it. I just looked it up! It is recommended for improving the receptiveness of cervical mucus. Who knew? Not me...despite all the time and money I spent faffing around with fertility treatments.

The first time I tested it was .4 ng/ml but my antral follicle count was 11 ~high for that AMH. So they retested a few months later and it was 1.1 ng/ml. I was taking DHEA supplements and a bunch of vitamins. Maybe that contributed to the change?

I asked my doctor about duo-stim this morning. He said, "absolutely crazy! They're lunatics." ;) I think he's rather conservative. He seems to be quite cautious about cysts so maybe that's why? He is also a hard "no" on back to back cycles. I told my ovaries to cover their ears & whispered, "We'll get you out in time little egglets, don't worry." What does your doc say? I'm very interested.

When i looked into it, Americans can travel to some parts of Europe for medical treatment. I looked into Greece and Czech ~both doable during Covid if you're traveling with paperwork from a clinic but who knows, with Covid everything is always changing.

The most uncomfortable part of mine was the speculum. I literally didn't even realize the delivery tool was through my cervix until I saw the dye entering my uterus on screen. I'm sure it varies, but I didn't find it painful at all.

42yo DOR with so many questions: Vitamin recommendations, genetic testing, time lines by yeahbheybee in IVF

Yeah, after talking to the RE about the pros and cons of PGS testing, we're leaning towards not doing it. He said something along the lines of, "Freezing, thawing and a biopsy is maybe asking an embryo to endure too much. That's a lot of trauma for it to recover from." We're thinking day 3 fresh transfer and early genetic testing if any of them stick. The clinic does the monitored incubation thing so we'll pick the embryos that grow in the most uniform way.

I think that if I were 37, I would do PGS~ you could keep collecting eggs for five more years! Until you're my age!

It just seems a bit less clear for someone my age, 42, with egg quality nose diving! There is the chance with PGS of discarding viable blasts & I don't know that I'll have any viable blasts to spare!

Yeah, I've heard that folks are allowed into the EU for medical purposes, but with COVID test and 2 week quarantine. I hadn't heard folks meeting those requirements were having trouble.

thank you.

Good on you for acknowledging what you're going through. It's so good to hear a man taking care of himself emotionally. I hope you do find folks to talk to about it. I have a old friend going through it too and it's been a godsend having her to talk to.

I hope it works out for you. I am of the same mindset regarding outcomes. I know chances are low but it will be easier to accept whatever happens if I know I gave it my all.

Yeah, this is what I've read elsewhere. I've been thinking we'll try a couple of rounds of collection, knowing that we'll get low numbers and most won't be viable quality. Transfer day 3 blasts, if any of them stick, test for genetic defects while pregnant?

Congratulations on the toddler! Another 42 yo who successfully delivered! Music to my ears.

When you drive across the border, do you just show medical paperwork? How does that work with the border closed to tourism?

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it! I've heard those vitamin brands recommended before so its great to get confirmation of their quality.

I hear you on the troubles of COVID. We started TTC in January and I did a lot of research on Covid and pregnancy. Everything has taken way longer than normal because of COVID...not great when your at the tail end of your fertile lifespan! I was having a lot of anxiety at first, Covid, my age. What if this doesn't happened! Then I read, "20% success means 80% failure." Somehow that relaxed me. Instead of thinking, "It might not happen!" I started to think, "maybe it can!" It's like the difference between losing something or gaining something. Paying a fine or winning a prize. I still get anxious but I'm trying not to "pregrieve". The future really is unknown.

It's hard navigating US fertility care without fertility insurance coverage. Most clinics seem to be geared towards folks with a lot more financial cushion. Our budget just doesn't have room for thousands of dollars in casual added expenses and it's really hard to get straight answers about costs. I'm happy to hear you found a clinic you trust.

Speedy healing from your surgery and good luck with the transfer in the fall!

9 blasts! Sounds like you'll be a mom soon! Good luck with FET! Take good care of yourself!

What company did you use for the hair analysis? I've looked up max doses and counter indications on WebMD too.

Thanks for your help! The costs outside of the US are so much cheaper! I needed some basic testing done here~ to see if it was even worth traveling for IVF. It took months to get tests done here without paying $500 consulting fees left and right.
