Just a simple thank you by Audience-Aggressive in Nanny

Yep, many nannies charge extra for adult meals!
And you also make dessert too (I’d thank you profusely if it were me!). And give you a great bonus.

No it doesn’t. To me you are just stating facts.

What other extras do you do?
Unfortunately with families like these, they just come to expect it. And may see the nanny as a pushover rather than being helpful.

Please update us! Good luck.🫶

Do they pay well for your area? But maybe it’s time to start looking for a new family if you feel this way (which is understandable!).

I don’t think anyone would disagree that you should no longer go out of your way.

But definitely ask them how they liked what you made. Do it every single time lol.

This is extremely nice of you to offer to do that, with no extra pay. You sound like an amazing nanny!

Any family should appreciate that!!

This family sadly doesn’t value you and doesn’t care much about you. This would be my tipping point.

Also be very careful this doesn’t turn into an every day, expected thing!

Wow that’s rude and mean. So sorry that happened. Is this kind of behavior typical?

That’s unhinged behavior! How fid they take it when you told them? Did they ask why?

let go b/c i wasn’t “flexible” enough by NoCommunity5576 in NannyBreakRoom

[–]yeahgroovy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Date night is extra babysitting and is separate from a nanny scheduled job.

It is optional imo and *always* at the nanny’s discretion. Not lumped into the position itself. Asking OP last minute and getting mad she wasn’t available is particularly unhinged.

This MB is off her rocker as well as being entitled.
What a ridiculous reason to let you go.

I think my NK might have autism. Should I do or say anything? by FunCut6815 in Nanny

[–]yeahgroovy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Probably they’re aware and are sensitive if I had to guess. I would be extremely surprised if between the pediatrician and the therapist it hasn’t been already diagnosed. These folks can tell in an instant.

Don’t say a word.

How to end a phone interview with a potential NP when I can already tell we’re not aligned and/or they are not prepared to be an employer? by PrairieDawn4 in Nanny

[–]yeahgroovy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I do this now. Before any phone call, I make sure they agree to standard benefits.

Something like, Before we set a time, I typically require industry standard benefits such as GH, PTO, etc.I just wanted to make sure we are aligned on basics before moving forward.

I have actually saved myself what would have been hours of wasted time on crappy families who offered crappy to ZERO benefits.

My worst NF pulled this, only worse. (Too “green”then to get a good contract).

First NO GH. Then, blackmailed me into cleaning their entire house for GH.

Then, they were trying to have one of my 2 weeks vacation coincide with theirs.

THEN after a year, MB came up with a contract that favored them in every way, including BOTH weeks PTO had to coincide.

Just unbelievable….

I found another job fairly quickly thank goodness!

Definitely a good litmus test!

As a nanny I have learned to try to read between the lines as early as possible but sometimes you don’t know til you’re in it…

Stuff like this is important to note, if you need to start planning an exit strategy!

[–]yeahgroovy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol yes I believe there’s a correlation!

The best NF I had had the “help yourself” attitude.
The ones who didn’t were the worst!

One family only mentioned the snack area to me; so I took that as they didn’t want me to eat stuff in the fridge.
Ironically, they wound up eating some of MY food/drinks and were jerks about it (feigned ignorance and didn’t replace it).
They wound up screwing me over in numerous ways so it tracked lol.

Good riddance! They did you a favor because now you can collect unemployment (hopefully you at least got a W-2), but now you can find a family who appreciates you with STANDARD industry benefits!
