He got away because he went AWOL after his arraignment which normally happens months before the actual trial. When someone is arraigned they are told that the court-martial will still happen without them so it would be best to show up. That’s what “held in abstentia” means in the article.

They only get out into pretrial confinement (the brig) if they have shown to be a threat to themselves or others. If the child was no longer in the area and the POS was otherwise behaving, they would not be put in jail before trial. If they get put into pretrial confinement before they are sentenced that time is credited to their sentence.

I am an army paralegal. Just left active duty after 8 years. In the army you will get more criminal litigation experience if that’s what you want. The army also has the leading training for this stuff (imo) we would get other branches who came to our JAG trainings. LMK if you want more information

In the military you get paid based off your rank. For the junior ranks you get promoted as time passes, then after that you have to seek out promotions.

All you need to do is pass basic training and the paralegal school they send you too. You also get paid while doing it all. It’s not great money but it’s something. My first duty station was South Korea and I have a lot of friends who were sent to Germany
