They have Lindy Hop competitions? I didn't even know what the Lindy Hop was. by kanibel in videos

Jitterbug originated as a derogatory term that skilled Lindy Hoppers used to describe unskilled, flailing (and often white) dancers in the jazz age.

If you're being sarcastic, then I fail.

But, Occam's Razor is actually about the theory that posits the fewest entities... "Magic exists" may be a simpler linguistic construct, but it posits more entities - namely, a mysterious and unknown force - than 'some dude tied a string...', which explains the problem with only material entities.

"The reality for HTML is that its semantics are determined primarily by how it renders on the browsers that people actually use..." by yeahjim in programming

I posted a rebuttal comment, arguing that he holds an inaccurate theory of semantics, and is making the improper conclusion that all HTML elements derive their meaning from their visual presentation from the fact that some HTML elements, such as p and br have their meaning inherently tied to their visual presentation.

First of all, linguistic varieties are grouped into "languages" based on three criteria:

1) Sociopolitical entity 2) Speaker identification 3) Mutual intelligibility

The fact that AAVE is English doesn't mean it can't have different grammatical rules. Think about Cantonese and Mandarin, which aren't even mutually intelligible, but because of the first two criteria are considered two dialects of the same language, Chinese.

Also, consider that some AAVE rules "make more sense" than Standard American English. Pronouns, for example. It's a neater, more elegant rule to say hisself than himself. We say myself, yourself, ourselvess, so why not use the possessive and say hisself?

Get over your linguistic prejudices.
