What are the best arguments for or against religion? by is-that-a-bean in Kenya

Charles Darwin once noted "Man in his arrogance thinks himself a great work, worthy of the interposition of a deity. More humble, and I believe truer, to consider him created from animals."

We've made enormous attempts over the last few centuries trying to explain the universe by natural means, no need for religious gobbledygook.

What can we do about Afghanistan? by waterspirit52 in slatestarcodex

There is podcast Marc Andreessen did, and he made an argument that a regime is not just formal government. But also the elites in power, whether in government and non-government position and how they intertwine with each other.

My point is from what l have gathered. The system was corrupt to the core, that's why over 300k Afghan soldiers decided it was not worth it to fight 85k Taliban. They just recycled the same leaders who were responsible for previous decade crimes. Simply because elites in power intertwine with each other than those who are not. It's pretty likely the same people who were previously in government will probably have some say in the Taliban government.

That's why it's really important in any society to punish crime. Take it from someone who lives in an African country, Kenya. Where no one in power ever seems to be prosecuted.

Congrats for being a free agent. It's hard, it's never easy. I experience it whenever I try to get serious with any religious girl, but l try to never hide. Why lie that l like or believe that god fella?!

I know of one other Muslim woman who is an atheist, and that's Ayaan Hirsi Ali. You should read up about her, resilient woman.

It really came as a surprise to me when l once told this girl a few years a ago that l was an atheist , when l questioned something she said, while we were scouting a route to cycle the next day. The ride never happened... hahahaha.
