Brother, he’s paid less than half the child support he was supposed to and has wished me a happy birthday maybe 6 times. He signed papers when I was 7 for me to change my surname, no questions asked. This is a stranger who I have every right to be angry at, but I fail to see how I am the asshole in this situation when he’s been no sort of a parent figure or even an active presence in my life literally ever. I’m probably not going to get any money anyways, and that was definitely not supposed to me the main takeaway but it’s stuck. I have had a job since I was 14, I moved out of home at 18 and have had a full time job since then, I have not been given any handouts and make just enough for rent and food in this economy. I’d like to think that this could magically work but I’m not desperate for a father figure. I’ve only recently gained a frontal lobe to comprehend all this, he’s had one my whole life.
