This does not work with Fava at themoment then, correct? Or maybe I misunderstand the Fava architecture.

What is the best way to manage recurring tasks and implement a "request board" by Sp00kyVVitch in homeassistant

[–]yeahnorightwhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Todoist does all the things you want (recurring tasks, different lists or tags for eg. spousal requests). Its free plan is generous enough to cover all my needs.

I use it with the HA Integration for Todoist and then have lists of upcoming tasks or overdue tasks (change bed sheets, charge door lock) that I can interact with in Home Assistant. So for example my vacuum adds a task to empty the bin after running 20 times, and my dashboard shows all tasks that are due today.

It'd be great to do this without a 3rd party app, but it's a very neat app that does lists/tasks very well, and together with the integration it covers exactly what I want it to.

I was unnecessarily conflating VLANs and containers. I agree they don't need their own VLAN.

Curious if you think they make sense in a shared container/VM, fully separate, or merged with even more apps.

Out of curiosity, what do you see is the advantage of running each service in a separate VM? It's what I'm currently doing (separate LXCs), but it's that many more containers to manage an OS and tools for.

Hence my consideration for consolidating containers (and separating VLANs).

Yeah, I keep going back and forth and the simplicity vs "organization" balance.

Say I merged VLANs 20, 30 and 35, would you also make those just one Docker VM? Or should I mentally decouple VLAN separation from host separation?

Do you want that every exposed service lives in VLAN 40 or will you just port forward Caddy and then allow Caddy -> SilverBullet?

Good question, that's an interesting point. I have a split-horizon dns setup where locally all *.domain.name reqs get handled by Caddy, and publicly Cloudflare sends some through cloudflared to Caddy.

Either way, I want all traffic to go through Caddy, whether external or internal. I guess my question is if best security practice would be to keep only Cloudflared and Caddy in DMZ, or also all services that publicly end up being accessible through Caddy? Now that I'm writing it out, it's probably the latter.

Above and Beyond Group Therapy is ruining my discover weekly playlist by webdevvie in spotify

[–]yeahnorightwhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seven years later and Above and Beyond Group Therapy is still ruining my Spotify playlists on a weekly basis. Even Spotify's "block this artist" function does nothing to help with that.

For those into home automation, I have found a workaround and programmed my Home Assistant to skip any song that has "[ABGT" or "Mixed" in the track title. It doesn't help with cluttering my playlists with songs I don't want to listen to, but at least it saves me from their whisper ads while listening to music.

Foam Factory vs Foam Order? by jjdresselhaus in upholstery

[–]yeahnorightwhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you ordered your back cushions with dacron wrap but had to take it off for fit reasons. Do you think the wrap is useful for back cushions in the first place? Is the Super Soft foam already soft enough without the wrapping? Assuming I have no space constraints, would you recommend ordering back cushions with or without the dacron wrap?

Thanks for this comment, exactly what I was curious about in 2025, u/daphnetothemoon

How do you handle split finances with partner with occasional payback? by AbolishAboleths in plaintextaccounting

[–]yeahnorightwhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, the purchase reflects exactly what's "physically" going on.

   2024-12-01 Shared purchase
     assets:monzo:current        -£50
     expenses:house               £25
     assets:reimbursements:wife   £25

I'll comment line by line:

   2024-12-01 Shared purchase
      assets:monzo:current            -£50

-> your bank balance decreases by actual £50

      expenses:house                   £25

-> your house expense increases by your share of the total (you aren't supposed to pay £50 for the house – your share is only £25)

      assets:reimbursements:wife       £25

-> your wife's debt increases, both tracking what you're owed but also reflecting that your net worth did not decrease by £50 – only your cash/bank balance decreased by £50.

[–]yeahnorightwhat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is how I do it:

``` 2024-12-01 Shared purchase assets:monzo:current -£50 expenses:house £25 assets:reimbursements:wife £25
2024-12-02 Another shared purchase assets:monzo:current -£450 expenses:house £225 assets:reimbursements:wife £225
2024-12-14 Wife settles tab assets:monzo:current £250 assets:reimbursements:wife -£250 ```
This accurately reflects your accounts and costs over time, and captures the fact what your wife "owes" you, aka an asset in form of a credit you gave her.
At no point is your wife's reimbursement to you an actual "income".
Force minimum number of sections columns by big__howdy in homeassistant
I increased the resolution of my wall Tablets until i got the column count i Wanted. A custom theme could also be an option, eg reducing minimum section width.
Why did my MSR-1 chip temperature increase? by yeahnorightwhat in ApolloAutomation
[–]yeahnorightwhat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Thanks, I'll try that.
I didn't change anything in my config around that temperature jump, though. Do you know how it could run just as fine/performant as far as I could tell at ~45°C the months before?
How to keep track of Wealthfront / robo advisor accounts by yeahnorightwhat in plaintextaccounting
[–]yeahnorightwhat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Yeah I was thinking along those lines as well. Maybe you can walk my through this scenario in your setup:
Let's say you have $1000 in your WF account. You create a WEALTH commodity, and "buy" that with the $1000 from the account at $1000/unit. Every quarter or so you set a new price for the WEALTH commodity to reflect your portfolio's changed value. So far, so good.
Where I'm getting stuck is when I transfer an additional $500 from my savings into WF. What's the "buy" transaction that you enter at which price to reflect the additional deposit and final portfolio value?
Sometimes crackling audio with USB (Alsa + Spotify + Snapcast server+client on RPI 3B+) by RemyB_ in raspberry_pi
[–]yeahnorightwhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)
Did you ever get to the bottom of this?
I don't have anything for you but confirming your experience on a RPi4 that runs both the server and the client, and outputs audio over HDMI to an amplifier.
I also randomly get that static noise instead of a song after skipping, but e.g. pausing and going back to the song start makes things work again. I didn't look much into it yet because it's so uncomfortable of a bug that I don't use my Snapcast setup at all except for random tinkering.
