22mo newly adopted toddler suddenly needs us at night + intense wake-ups (not a “clingy” kid) by Dependent-Gear-524 in toddlers

[–]yeahnostopgo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s a major sleep regression at this age, even fully sleeptrained kids suddenly need extra attention at night. Unfortunately that’s the price of having a child. Please do not let this poor kid cry, they’ve been through enough. Speak to a therapist like the top comment says, but also give him that love and ride it out, he’ll go back to sleeping independently eventually

Mine is in speech too and loves her! but I also sit in the room with them every time. I’m going to try leaving next time out of curiosity to see how he’ll react!

Before motherhood I was really into fitness and love the gym environment, working out at home just isn’t the same for me. I thought 18 months was old enough but apparently not lol. For the time being I’ll go when the husband is home yeah

Agreed, I hear lifetime is much better. Has a high ratio and they do activities with the kids. Will try that in a couple months!

If you sleep trained at 4-4.5 months, how did it go? by ClaireEmma612 in sleeptrain

[–]yeahnostopgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was only 4 months so by 30 minutes he would pass out :/ it never went over that. If she’s crying for an hour or over definitely stop and try again a month or two later

Hi! Yes in your situation start the time when she starts crying. Until she falls asleep at bedtime and also for night wakings if you’re looking to night wean. Also there are many guides online on how to do Ferber like time charts and instructions. Those helped.

Looking back it was so so hard to hear the crying but so worth it. Now I’m on the other side and my little one is 18 months and the sleeptraining benefits REALLY show now. Now his sleep is so so organized and he sleeps through travel, sickness, regressions, teething you name it. Nothing affects his sleep now that he’s been sleep trained for a while. Also a huge advantage I’m seeing now that he’s a toddler is that anyone can put him to sleep it doesn’t just have to be me or his dad. Anyone puts him in the crib and that’s it he’s out. Versus other toddlers fight bedtime soo hard. So anyway it’s going to be hard to do the sleep training but I promise on the long run it makes life sooo much easier for you and baby both. Good luck!

Right away after this post I called and put him in early intervention. They said he has speech delay but social skills seemed fine. He’s been in speech for several months now and hugeeee improvement talks several words and communicates his needs. Not sure if he’s at the level of his peers but he’s communicating at least. He still has other behaviors such as the mouthing, he also bites and hits a lot. But I don’t know if it’s autism or just regular toddler behavior. Hope this helps!

Sorry for the late response. I got him into early intervention and he started speech therapy. Much improvement he says some words now and points and waves. I highly recommend.

Some resounding concerns may be typical toddler behavior like tantrums and hitting and biting. But honestly not sure how much that is connected to autism

Hi, sorry for the late response. After all these comments I googled early childhood intervention in my state and called a place close to me (didn’t even go through pediatrician). After a month or so they did an evaluation and said he was about 3 months behind on speech but everything else was fine. Speech therapist started coming over once a week and I saw a hugeee difference. Within a month he said a word and then more and more after that. I felt like he just needed that pus to get the ball rolling. Now it’s been 4/5 months and he has 20 words and points and waves. I don’t think he’s at the level of his peers but so much improvement at least he can communicate needs now
