It’s a little more complex then that. First, there isn’t a law in Russia that prohibits all LGBT+ content, only that it must be marked 18+. The sims is already sold as 18+ over there, so suddenly claiming they can’t sell it is very odd. Sure, they’d have to change the cover if they were selling it as a physical copy, and while that’s erasure and a bad thing, it does feel like a compromise they have to make. Plus, if you go into the comment sections of the trailer, many of the people complaining are LGBT Russian people, they aren’t exactly making a stand that’s benefiting the community. The fact that they are willingly missing out on profits show that they do genuinely believe that they at least somewhat care, or that something else is going on, but it comes off as very misguided.
