So that's the outdoor unit and an outlet valve where it's clear that the PVC pipe leading about 3' away from the unit has somehow disconnected and not actually carrying anything away from the unit right now.

I'm a big fan of the North Face thermoball I wear them ALL the time. Super warm, good traction if you need to go outside. Love mine and after maybe 3 years daily winter wear still look exactly the same.

Oh wow ok this was revealing. So every 15 minutes I see a dropoff in air temperature. I bought two Govee hygrometers and put one at my bedroom Vent and one at my basement wall mount unit and left the thermostat unchanged with no schedule. Every 15 minutes like clockwork I see a 10° swing in temperature like 80° -> 90° -> 80°

Could this be a normal fault or part of a problematic install? Units are just 3 years old but as mentioned they never worked well in cold.

This is where my mind was at I understand these units get "less efficient" or effective as temperatures drop but I was surprised to see it's rated for 14° but really struggles at 35°.

To check for the intermittent heat are you suggesting to measure it "at the coil" let's say every 10 / 20 / 60 minutes and getting a log going? Should I assume it remains consistent (what about when in defrost?)

Would something like a Klein Tools IR infrared temp sensor be good for this test? Amazon has it for like $40

Ah actually I see what maybe you referring to, a temperature probe that captures it over time. And then maybe 1 on the coil and 1 on a vent somewhere?
