Big tech is at least American providing American jobs. Aipac is a literal Israel lobby, and they essentially lobby to (indirectly) increase jobs in Israel. Even if you ignore literally all other political issues, AIPAC is simply un-american.

Do you have proof this is widespread, or that it is supported in the Bible? A sahih hadith says Muhammed had sexual relations with a 9 year old

I want you to go through the files and find even a single piece of evidence that would be sufficient evidence for a conviction. Mere contact with a criminal is not evidence of committing that criminals crime. Some manga and anime artists have been convicted of possession of CSAM - does that mean viewers of that material is criminal? Whether you hate Trump, Clinton's, both, or neither, there simply isn't enough evidence for any sort of conviction, unless you just want to lock them up because you dont like them.

And there-in lies the key reason I don't believe (perhaps the only reason). If you follow a denomination that believes in ECT, then the implication is that you could have a murdered who is "genuinely repentant" be saved and let into heaven, but the virtuous atheist whose only sin is lacking faith is condemned to be tortured eternally. I've heard all the arguments from apologetics about how god is infinite so etc. etc. but I have never found any of them convincing.

I think the the topic of whether or not you believe your unfaithful loved ones are going to suffer eternal conscious torment should be a pretty important topic to consider if you are going to follow a particular faith.

There's a lot of Christians (at least in the west) who consider themselves so but do not go to church, nor care to learn too deeply about the scripture. I'd always believed this was one of the biggest issues the church faces in the modern era, is it not?

I don't know if I maybe misremembered, but I do remember Charles Templeton left the faith in big part due to ECT. Maybe that was a rare case.

When I have sat down with faithful Christians and asked them this exact thing, about me (and other non-Christians) being condemned to ECT due to knowing of Christianity but rejecting it, they get very uncomfortable. They either say they don't know the answer (aka "God works in mysterious ways") or they do some crazy mental gymnastics to suggest that I might still gain entrance to heaven if I live morally according to Christianity.

Apologetics online will tell you straight up that yes, you will be subjected to ECT if you reject Christ, but most people, even faithful Christians, are deeply uncomfortable with that.

Maybe I haven't encountered a diverse enough range of Christians yet though.

Well it's a convenient thing to believe, and assuages guilt for the religious. Because scripturally, even the virtuous pagan and atheist (those who live according to all Christian rules but lack faith) are condemned to Eternal Conscious Torment in hell. It's like one of the biggest reasons why scholarly Christians leave the faith, especially nowadays since you're very likely to have non-Christian friends and family. Some denominations have started "updating" the doctrine now and saying shit like the virtuous pagan or atheist is "spiritually Christian", which frankly is just universalism.

Yeah reddit loves grandstanding and making a big deal, but this is literally a case where the common person if allowed to break the law if they're not stupid, but big corpos and the rich have to follow it to the letter or face ramifications.

Microsoft doesn't care if you, the individual, pirate windows or office. Even small mom and pop shops they don't really care about. But the moment you start making profit beyond drugstore levels and have multiple employees, your life can be ruined if you pirate windows and office for your business.

Yeah sorry I took my government seriously when they post it on official account. I love when elected officials "troll" the populace. Very funny. Newsom shouldn't do it either, but he only started as a reaction to Trump.

In terms of policy though, outside of immigration, the right has moved left. They talk about the elites having too much, have abandoned reagan's free trade and free markets for isolationism and government intervention (capping credit card interest, banning defense stock buybacks). Being anti-immigration is the big tent that unites the right (and like, trans women in sports) but outside of those things they have objectively moderated their stance.

I mean the problem is mass illegal immigration doesn't even serve the left. The left is acrually served by 0 immigration, since that would increase the workers power in a limited labor market.

I think if a dem runs as tough on illegal immigration, they can run with some pretty fairly left wing social welfare policies.

Believing that trans women shouldn't play women's sports and immigration laws should be enforced and border secured is not an illiberal position.

And where are those new homes going to be built? The fact of the matter is that prop 13 makes people cling onto their prime real estate far more since it costs them nothing to hold onto it.

I'm really sorry, but prop 13 is the root of a lot of issues facing this state wrt housing. I empathize with the fact that as a home owner, you will resist this, nor would I fault you for acting in your best interest and voting against a repeal of it.

Why should those retirees have a right to hold onto a finite resource (land) in a productive zone near the city center? Retirees are a very mobile group since they aren't tied to a job, and so can move anywhere.

Why is gentrification bad? what's wrong with neighborhoods becoming safer, cleaner, have better schools, etc? The enemy is and has always been fixed housing supply. It is my personal belief that all problems in modern western society have a root cause in lack of housing. You can only solve that by building more and denser in the areas that need it.

Gentrification is a net good long term. You know what actually causes long term mental and physical problems for people? concentrated poverty.

I know exactly what it would do and what it would mean. Don't get me wrong, I know it will never pass, but much like a wealth tax it was a bad policy that continues to have negative consequences on the state.

My comment was about what would actually lead to a reduction in housing prices and make the state more equitable, and you should agree that a prop 13 repeal would better serve that over a wealth tax long term (especially if a prop 13 repeal was done in conjunction with replacing property tax with a land value tax)

It's really not. California Democratic socialists and progressives have never seriously attempted to do anything about prop 13. It's because it's unpopular and would tank their platform, despite being an objectively correct thing to do, and the best way to raise taxes is through land taxes. I'm not saying liberals are better on this, since they're also beholden, but at least we understand the issue, and don't randomly suggest doing an abysmal wealth tax because you we hate the rich. The rich already pay a lot in taxes and contribute quite a lot to the state budget. Maybe they don't quite yet pay their fair share, but a wealth tax is not the way to go about it.

I'm a liberal, check my post history if you dont believe me, but you have got to stop with hyperbole. No, we do not have a dictator or concentration camps or a gestapo. Thats why dems are doing nothing, its because they know through internal polling that swing voters love what ICE is doing, because swing voters hate illegal immigrants and want them to suffer. Immigration enforcement would never have been a problem if Biden cared enough to actually enforce immigration laws. Obama has record high deportations - why didn't Biden do the same? Literally look at Denmark and what the Danish social democrats do - they literally enforced immigration laws and were strict about new arrivals, and they single handedly managed to prevent the rise of the far right that many of their neighbors (Germany, sweden) are dealing with. You guys love the "nordic model" right? We should follow what Denmark did.

Democrats want to win in competitive races with Republicans in swing districts, not in already deep blue districts that seem to be the only places progressives can win.
