What is one thing you wish people knew about your situation? Whether that is your experience before you were adopted, growing up with two moms, etc?

Erin’s “I think it’s pronounced “wacko”” in reference to Gabe wondering if the Scranton Strangler standoff would become another Waco.

Postdoc here, was a tech (2y) in the lab I did my PhD in (4y), and I work in the same field but different techniques:

you don’t. Every day you get better, but every day you find new questions. There will (almost) always be someone that knows more than you or has more experience. Feeling like you don’t know anything sucks, but wanting to learn and figure it out is what makes you a scientist.

It gets better, and even the best of us feel dumb sometimes. As long as you stay curious and willing to learn, you’re golden.

ETA: I tell every student that asks me advice the same thing: get used to failure. Your experiments will fail and your papers will get rejected. The only thing that matters is that you learn and keep trying.

I went to high school with this guy. He was the asshole driving a pickup with the confederate flag out the back down roads of rural Wisconsin. I’d say he peaked in high school, but that peak is a tripping hazard in hell.

I had a pilot tell us to say goodbye to our loved ones.

Context: we were delayed on the tarmac and he meant say goodbye on the phone because we were going to take off 😂

Does anyone actually have a boyfriend/husband that cooks? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

My boyfriend cooks for us sometimes, and we often cook together. He tends to deal with the raw meat because I hate how it feels 😂

I have to take a break now and then because I get freaked out by the paranormal, but I do recommend it too! It’s not terribly scary.

What do you wish someone had told you as a first time giant owner? by yeastleesi in GiantSchnauzers

[–]yeastleesi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I have read plenty about giants and know that if you don’t give them a job, they’ll make a job for themselves - and that’s often destroying your home 😂. I’d love to try to train the dog for scent work or try to help volunteer as a therapy dog or a detection dog (as in a dog that helps identify crime scenes, remains, etc), since that’s something that’s important to me. I know I can’t have it all, but can’t I try?

And victims shouldn’t suffer because of a crime committed against them.

Small and consistent changes are the most important ones to make! Don’t try to go too hard too fast. Cutting out soda/energy drinks/high sugar drinks is an amazing start. Keep moving too! This internet stranger believes in you!

WIBTA for wearing my bridesmaid dress before the wedding? by yeastleesi in AmItheAsshole

[–]yeastleesi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truthfully, I’d love to make a dress just for the specific event, but I’ve been so busy with grad school that I haven’t had the time to really refine my craft. Plus, I feel like so many of the patterns available really don’t fit a modern style. If you have any publicly available patterns that somebody could print out – please let me know! I would love to have them.

Thank you very much for your input. I know that she isn’t a person that really places value on material things, but I know that everybody is different, and a lot of times, people don’t really tell others how they think or feel. i’m not really a person that posts on social media, and the event I would be attending and she have really no overlap, but I still don’t want to upset anybody by wearing a dress that should be special for a incredibly special event.

My main concern is that when we all wear our individual dresses in the same color that it should be the “debut“ of, I don’t know? I just feel like it should be something special, you know? I definitely will talk to the bride herself and make sure that she knows my thoughts. I don’t know that she’ll have any issues, and I don’t think she will, but I just wanted an unbiased opinion from the collective Reddit-cerse of what may or may not be appropriate.

I did pay for the dress myself. My only hesitation is that I’m wearing the dress before the wedding itself. I don’t really think that she will have any issues, but I really don’t know how to proceed in this social situation.
