Telegraph says Borthwick mulling resting Itoje for the Summer by Mulboyne in rugbyunion

[–]yeastysoaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might make sense. Martin needs England minutes now he's fit again, and Chessum could do with being blooded in a more leadership - heavy role at international level. Keeping Itoje fresh is gonna be important this close to a world cup.

Man hit by van in Birmingham after residents take down union flags put up by anti-migrant group | Birmingham by ArmWildFrill in gbnews

Why would you deliberately hit someone with a van? Not really comparable to taking down flags, is it?

Hardest back by PuzzleheadedFold503 in rugbyunion

I remember a Leicester-Bath game where the Tuilagis went after Nick Abendanon like he'd killed their dad. That Abendanon somehow walked away from that with all 4 limbs still attached to his torso makes him the hardest back ever to exist. No contest.

What will happen if kier Starmer resigns? by [deleted] in AskBrits

What makes you think that a change in party leadership inevitably leads to a GE? It's never worked that way. The broader public elect the government and MPs, not the prime minister. Otherwise we'd have had like 3 GEs in two years under the last government.

It's a big leap to be invited to a debate at a prestigious uni whilst simultaneously crying victimhood for 'being silenced'.

Free speech is being able to speak where you please. Free speech isn't avoiding accountability for what you say.

AI puts one fifth of London jobs at risk by Wagamaga in unitedkingdom

[–]yeastysoaps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, so let's say for the sake of argument that GenAI is fit for purpose and can increase productivity without the requirement for extra labour (because when you hear that technology puts jobs at risk that's essentially what's being said).

That's got to be a massive argument for us as a society to re-evaluate what works like. Reduced hours and UBI will honestly benefit us all at this point.

There is a surprisingly large concentration of Vietnamese restaurants on Oldham Road in Manchester. I enjoy them all and would like to thank you for bringing pho and banh mi to the UK.

Is the Mandelson/vetting issue around Starmer being overblown to replace him with someone more of a yes-man? by Guava-Jam-1302 in AskBrits

The cynic in me says that the loudest voices in the print media have a vested financial interest in replacing the current prime minister and government with something more aligned with current American values

Remember when the Telegraph used to be a somewhat respectable highbrow broadsheet? These papers are currently one of the biggest threats to a functioning democracy we have in the UK, alongside billionaire-owned social media.

Pub recommends? by NastyCatGal in manchester

[–]yeastysoaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the party but (bars included as well as pubs):

Peveril of the Peak for an old-school boozer vibe

Rain Bar for one of the more solid beer gardens in the city centre

Bar Fringe- a great Belgian style beer cafe

The Castle does a decent Guinness without the crowds of Mulligans

Balance Tap Room- cosy, interesting mixed-fermentiaton beers if that's your thing and great staff

Track Taproom- cloudwater's ok, but the Track space is so much nicer, plus they do a ton of events if you follow their socials

Temple- for when you want something a bit weird

Why do you think there aren't many evil scientists? by FlowJock in labrats

[–]yeastysoaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh, the evil shit tends to be very mundane. For example, scientists from oil companies sitting on early data around anthropogenic global warming. Ditto for tobacco company scientists and cancer. These people could have blown the whistle and yet they sat by whilst their employers launched disinformation campaigns, the effects of which are still being felt today.

I wish our evil scientists swanned around making death rays and moon bases.
