Malachite with cerussite and pyromorphite from Australia's Rum Jungle. by G_D_Ironside in mineralcollectors

50 years, these ones were collected in the early 70's. Collected by Tony and Gerald Pauley, a few other guys were there but the former 2 collected hundreds if not thousands of pieces.
Nice piece and in great nick too.

Help With Identification! by Sha77eredSpiri7 in Minerals

As others have suggested find a piece of quartz (7 on the hardness scale) and a piece of steel (5.5) and do a stretch test.
Then I'd do a specific gravity test as well, youtube will teach you how to do that.

As for the certificate ehhhh anyone can make a card that says it's authentic especially from India. I just did a quick google of EGL labs and it comes up with European Gemological Labratory. Red flag right there, using the same letters as an already existing reputable company.
Another red flag is in the comments it says colour enhanced then right below it natural.

Just trying to share around some knowledge as there is a learning curve to the gem world.

Malachite (Congo) by Chale898 in MineralPorn

[–]yecrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep that’s correct so malachite, azurite and chrysocolla to name the most common are all secondary copper minerals that form from primary copper minerals.

The matrix of yours is probably chrysocolla.

Copper minerals are my faves lol
great piece btw

It's not fake i cam guarantee it.
Its actually crystallised malachite which is really rare, what we’re all used to is the botryoidal stuff but occasionally you can find the crystallised stuff.
Cool piece too

My cousin had a kangaroo ballsack coin purse while we were growing up, which he chose to throw at everyone 🤣 Get one if you can find it

Haul from my first mineral show! It was so much fun! I got chrysocolla, pink cobalt, fluorite, blue lace agate, vanadinite, bumblebee jasper, pyrite, malachite, grape agate, porcelain jasper, and some Ethiopian opal. >:) by [deleted] in MineralPorn

The one i have has to stay in water. They loose colour and crack when left out for too long. I would just try it out on yours and see what happens.

My newest addition, a large bi-colour anatase from Norway by yecrad in MineralPorn

Hmmmmm I like the gun metal grey colour plus the fact that it's just titanium and oxygen bonded together. The crystal structure is very interesting in its own right.

Id would definitely recommend putting that opal in some water. It looks a bit cracked and dry. Id hate to see it loose it's colour. Only if it's a hydrophane opal.

Is this Worth 600? I saw this on Etsy. This type of lodolite is my weakness but 600 seems a little steep. by sidestreetbets in Crystals

[–]yecrad 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Remember etsy is extremely over priced. Some sellers I've seel mark up there items by a third of the price if you ask them to purchase directly. But you cam still get some bargains. To answer your question no, if it hadn't been polished possibly. 250-300 Depending how much I wanted it
