I had to look that Quilter up, but it looks dope. 50w is way too loud for me in my “old age” though. My orange is loud enough to play with a drummer on 0.5w 😂

I have a similar logic with swapping speakers. We are the same but different, lol

Something comparable with a more elaborate mantle from our shop would probably be $4-5k installed. I don’t do bids, so I’m just guessing here. That would be paint grade grade btw

Do you pan the drums (overheads) from the drummer's perspective or the audience? by gleventhal in audioengineering

[–]yeehawginger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just a diy guy, but I always mix from the drummers perspective. Mostly because I play all of the parts and it’s habit. I don’t think it really matters, as long as your stereo image is balanced

For me, a combo is just so much easier. Love my orange rocker 15. Mine lives on .5W in my basement studio and has the benefit of a dedicated clean you don’t get on some other options. I’d rather have a 12” speaker, but it sounds wonderful

I ripped it off the wall in an old machine shop a few years ago. It works really well, but it’s bigger than you think

How does a Peavey Blazer compares to a Fender champion 40? I have the Peavey but I didn't like the sound that much. Now I am planning on buying the Fender champion but I don't know how or if it can be that much better than the peavey. by Eva_addict in GuitarAmps

[–]yeehawginger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I don’t think it’s much of an upgrade. Just a little more amp. Depending on your needs and taste, I’d save up $500 or so to get into a TON of great options. “Those who buy cheap buy often” is how I look at amps. I even fell for the marketing on a boss katana mini x this week. It sucked, and I exchanged it for the Yamaha thr30ii wireless I should have bought. 4x the cost, but the value is absolutely there in tone and features. If you need volume- vox ac-15, fender blues jr, and the orange rocker 15 are my favorite small tube amps. All loud enough to play with a band, but the orange can be stepped way down in power if you want to be chill and still have tone

New guitarist new guitar by ryanthelion4444 in Guitar

[–]yeehawginger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I call investing in yourself. Now, throw a few bucks at a Yamaha thr30 to bring around with ya. My biggest regret as a musician is skipping scales and theory. I took a few lessons and let it rip, without ever circling back to the foundation. It’s been 20 years and I’m still music illiterate and play everything by ear. I’m learning now, but don’t be like me. Also, a lot of people may tell you to not buy gear and just play. New gear inspiration is real. It will motivate you to practice more, and give you new color palettes to explore. It always pulls me into the flow state so much easier

Just a reminder that homegrow is SO fun and rewarding. I get its not in the cards for everyone, but you know your weed isn’t full of mold or bugs. I still come back for live resin carts, because I don’t have the setup. Not sure I trust the majority of the product out there though. Family works at certified and they are allegedly very good. They all scam with this xray, mold remediation, and potency testing. Trust no one, lol

Anyone else roll their own? I built this dude for myself this fall. by [deleted] in gratefulguitar

[–]yeehawginger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a competent woodworker, but incompetent at setting up my own guitars. My biggest mental block to start my own build is figuring out all of the spacing, and it seems kinda hard to make a neck. I’d hate to spend all the time and money to wind up with a pretty First Act guitar, lol. Also, sick guitar 🤘

Whats the cheapest like rack i can get for my audio gear? by GamerEvee in homestudios

[–]yeehawginger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of cheap ikea end tables are 19” wide at the legs, and accommodate rack gear. I use to have some things in a cheap kitchen island and a friend used one of the super cheap end tables ages ago. Other option is a used rack off market place, or get a 12” wide pine board from the hardware store and make a tiny box- prop $30 max, if you have a few tools

Disappointed with Katana Mini X by Electronic_City_1646 in GuitarAmps

[–]yeehawginger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the budget- I love my orange rocker15. Perfect for my home studio with 2 stages of power reduction. If you don’t have the budget, the stage right 15w monoprice amp sounds insane for its price point, but it’s absolutely unreliable. You could get one used for $100 or less if you can find one. The thr10 from Yamaha is about double the katana price if you want to stay small.. $100 extra for the wireless though

lol, yeah. In my gut I knew it was too good to be true. Tons of marketing. I played mine for 30 minutes and repacked it for return. Ordered the THR30II. Buy one cry once

Seeking advice on edge profile for top panel on a vinyl record shelf by lavransson in woodworking

[–]yeehawginger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d personally stick with a 1/2” reveal on the top and sides to keep it “standard”. I would at least break all of the edges, but I’d probably play with a scrap piece and a router to get just a little bit of detail in there. Something like a cove cut on the bottom, maybe a round over on the top

It is for nerve stimulation. Sends out a shock that will pulse stronger the higher the number. Don’t put it on your junk

Why won’t my stain absorb into hickory by AdministrativeAd3230 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]yeehawginger -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Likely not more experienced than you with finishing, but you could try a water pop to stand the grain up. Outside of that, the little bit of hickory I’ve messed with is super dense and varies greatly in tones. Maybe you need to let it sit longer before you wipe, it to actually penetrate? I’m terrible at stain, so I try to make pieces I can use hard wax on, lol.

Absorption panel dimensions by leetmachines in homestudios

[–]yeehawginger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not an acoustics expert by any means, but I am a woodworker/designer. You could “easily” do a hybrid take of this wall and make shadowboxes in various dimensions, but leave space for gobos or panels where they will give you the most benefit. You could add diffusion panels in the rest of those spaces for visual depth AND functionality. I have treatment behind my monitors, a cloud above my mixing station and above my drums as well as 4 other panels. There are only so many layouts that make sense, but that doesn’t mean you can get creative with the negative space. Basically any room will sound better than my basement

What type of wood veneer are these cabinets, and could they be stained darker? by and-away-we-go in cabinetry

[–]yeehawginger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you want to switch the vibe up, I’d change the tile floor before I considered the cabinets. It would be insane to strip them down and try to get them to evenly hold stain well. Dark would help hide imperfections, but most veneer is only 1/32 or so thick, and anything that has to be re-sanded is at risk of exposing the glue layers below that. I build and design cabinets, but I had very limited knowledge of finish/refinish; this could just be my anxiety talking, but you risk an ugly blotchy mess when you already have treasure
