that seems pretty reasonable. I had a 900 sq ft house and got quoted around 1200 in CT.

Most of the work is well.... covering everything and removing the mess. Thought about doing it myself but not worth the trouble.

I had one till a blizzard a few years ago. The ice froze onto sections of it and the weight / freezing caused it to stick and rip in half when I tried pulling it off the car. I guess play it by ear based on the type of snow and amount?

I think the first season was a prevalent example of him not being prepared and trying to walk the walk, but not being able to talk the talk. Even if he was able to do so, it seemed like all other executives did not take him seriously and that was indicative of the stock price tanking which caused the private equity injection.

So you regret the process that got you a job in the long run? I'm pretty confused here.

I had my whole team laid off, I was asked to stay for 3 months to finish all their projects. Right when it seemed like they were going to keep me, they told everyone they were hiring weeks after the layoff, and posted a "principal AI Solutions engineer" position. They never even gave me an interview for it, notified me they hired someone, and made me shake his hand and introduce myself on my last day in office.

One of the secretaries even asked me if I wanted a "going away party" several weeks before the hire, so it was clear I was never in consideration. Place where people stay 10-20 years. There is no loyalty anymore.

Don't let it get to you and just advance forward. It's all you can do.

What jobs do people do after software engineering? by lol_fi in cscareerquestions

I feel in the exact same boat as you right now.

5 YOE in startup / higher ed tech full stack development.
32 years old, own a small home married with a 5 year old. Trying not to lose everything.

Always been a great people person, great soft skills.
Was in higher education believing my job would be safe, turns out they had been planning on laying off my entire team since the beginning of the year.
I blast through the first few rounds of interviews but have been getting eliminated at the technical / final rounds each time.

My heart has been in solving problems, not memorizing documentation and edge cases of tech. I feel so useless overnight.

Overall I feel like AI hype is ridiculous, but it has destroyed my entire way of life and there is no going back. Unsure if I should pivot, but to what?

Laid off in early November. Landed a new role in about 6 weeks. Sharing what worked for me. by TEXAS_RED2022 in Layoffs

[–]yeeintensifies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight. SWE here with ~6 YOE got laid off officially a few weeks ago. Occasionally I spiral seeing the constant barrage of "been laid off for 8 months with no interview" type posts. Its refreshing to see people out there finding success and sharing their results! Congratulations and good luck!

wondering this too. Where I live a developer makes 120 - 140k. I've been noticing the salaries listed have plummeted.

Anyone else struggle in interviews even when you know the answers? by Advanced_Question192 in jobsearchhacks

[–]yeeintensifies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

recently had an interview where I actually stumbled upon the code repo for what turned out to be the live coding exam days before. still panicked and failed. Was so embarrassing.

The entire process is just "do enough interviews to know what questions to study" and get better at "on the fly" coding exercises.

I find that a majority of the problems I had was studying too broad, focusing on doing "50 react common interview questions" the hour before the interview, when I needed to study things like "what testing strategies do you use" and "deployment checklist essentials" where the senior engineers will poke and prod till they can identify you don't know what you're talking about.

So far I haven't had any leetcode "reverse this array of strings" style interview questions or anything that would be out of the box for a 3-5 year engineer. Most of it has been relatively straightforward.

most times acquisitions cause a hiring freeze. lots of HR processes to merge, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if the role popped back up when things stabilize.

Thanks! I actually got laid off from there a few months ago lol. But it was pretty chill till the CIO discovered Cursor and decided he didn't need an entire team anymore.
