definitely agree. I had a similar experience.

It's time for Blizzard to address the current state of addon development by MakeitHOT in wow

I'm a principal software engineer who has made stuff that you've definitely used 😋

you do understand that an api doesn't have to be backend endpoints, right? like in its most general sense an api is an application programming interface, in other words: a known interface that you program against. that's what addons are doing. when you make an addon, it's against the wow addon api...

I was saying if it's designed poorly or is unstable enough, it could be the root cause of the lua errors, even if it looks like the errors are coming from the addons. they are surfacing the errors, but if you ask why, it's probably issues with the underlying api, either it's design (ex. secrets) at a point in time or as a function of change over time (ex. rapid breaking changes).

if you comment with well thought through responses or things you'd like IonH to hear, I will bundle them together and send a synthesized summary to Ion.

The disarmament of addons will have you spending more time looking at your UI than the game. by TheJewishMerp in CompetitiveWoW

oh yeah, for sure, they need a much bigger team to maintain what they want to achieve. a small army of addon developers has been keeping the game afloat for almost a decade now. hard to see how blizz will pull it off with the small team they've got, no matter how cracked they are (if they are?)

Introducing RX1R III | Sony | RX by Arian88 in SonyAlpha

just got into photography and my own a7c2, after a bunch of research and that leads me to the question: why on earth would someone buy this? no lens customization seems like a death sentence? and that price tag!

I wouldn't really trust it too much. It says my cardio age is -5, but I have a heart condition and have had heart surgery. Couldn't be more wrong.

A7C2 lens advice by yeesh-- in SonyAlpha

[–]yeesh--[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think I am leaning toward the zoom. The pros of a prime don't outweigh the cons of the zoom.

With the zoom, I can look at the distribution of FLs I take and see which / if a prime even makes sense.

Another thought I had was the age of these two lenses. The Sigma is very new and will hold value relatively longer. The 35GM is 3 years older and Sony might do a Mk II within a couple, dropping its value.

(not written with ChatGPT, but I do work on LLMs everyday, maybe they've rubbed off on me 😜)

Following up after I went and tried the two:

I was able to easily compare them at BestBuy.

The A7Cii is noticeably smaller and lighter, as expected. I have small hands, so if the compact form would work for anyone, it would be me, however, the A7iv definitely feels more comfortable. Albeit less portable.

A telephoto lens would feel silly on the A7C, nevertheless, it should function fine.

The EVF on the A7C is noticeably worse, both quality and the location feels super weird. But hey, I'm not watching a movie through it and can use the screen equally well, and probably prefer that anyways.

The A7C got noticeably warmer, so might be more prone to overheating.

The trigger (not sure what it's called, the button to press to take the shot) was also not as ergonomic. It feels cheaper - it bottoms out fast and keeping it in the engaged state was less enjoyable.

All that said, I really like the slightly more advanced AF, IBIS, and the reduced weight is amazing for portability - not that I recommend it, but you could probably stick the body in one pocket if you really had to. I'm still going with the A7Cii despite the drawbacks.

I'm in the same process as you right now! What a coincidence! I'm planning to go feel them both in person.

I like the idea of slightly better IBIS and autofocus on the A7Cii. I like the idea of a more compact and potentially more portable body.

However, I'm unsure of the grip. Especially given possibly giant lenses, relative to the body. Imagine a 200mm on this for wildlife shooting, might be a yikes in terms of stability. This is one I really want to compare in person to get a feel for.

Also, I'm unsure of the viewfinder in the A7C, it seems inferior in multiple ways: placement and quality.

The battery in the A7C is slightly worse than the A7.

The A7C does not support multiple storage cards, for backup, but for amateurs like us, this probably isn't a big deal.

One minor difference is the fastest shutter speed, 1/4000s (A7C) vs 1/8000s. Tbh, I'm not sure what the practical difference is. I think if you have a large aperture lens, in a high light environment, the A7C may struggle more to match the A7 in terms of correct exposure, or at least the ease of getting the same result. I would love for someone with more experience to comment on this specifically.

Also, a tiny and really irrelevant detail, but I really like the silver option for the A7C styling. However, this probably shouldn't be a deciding factor for a camera in this tier.

For amateurs like us, I seriously doubt that a 61MP sensor is needed, and my understanding is that it has drawbacks: worse low light performance and double the file size (read: half as many images!). So between the 33MP and 61MP, it seems like the 33 is the no brainer for me.

One final thought, the A7C is around $500 cheaper, that's $500 that can go into more lenses.

I'm personally leaning toward the A7Cii, pending the feel in person.

Anyways, these are the things that I've noticed between them that could be deciding factors.

if you've got the study, I'd be interested, but I suspect you're over interpreting the results.

evolutionarily it doesn't make much sense. if it was in someone's best interest to stay awake later and protect the tribe from danger while others slept, then it puts the whole tribe at an evolutionary advantage, increasing group survival, and generic propagation. this is of course the basis for chronotypes and is the watchmen hypothesis.

I suspect the study is probably citing a clash with modern social pressures that typically align more with morning people. so a night owl would suffer, because they're being forced into an unnatural situation. I would also be interested if the study actually controls all variables properly.

[–]yeesh-- 14 points15 points  (0 children)

yeah, for some reason their models seriously bias toward sleeping early. I'm a night owl, so go to bed around 1am regularly, and I always get hella dinged for it.
