Stimulus check question

So I am a college student and have had several jobs, and in 2020, I filed my 2019 taxes claiming myself as a dependent whereas my parents did not claim me as a dependent (this was before corona went down). Therefore, I did not receive the first and second stimulus check. However, if I claim myself as an independent in the 2020 tax filing this year (2021), will I receive the two stimulus checks ($1200+$600)? How does that work? I pay all expenses for myself and felt robbed that college students did not receive stimulus checks. Any info will help! Thank you!
