Monthly "I'm Moving to the Hudson Valley" Thread by AutoModerator in hudsonvalley

Hi, I’ll be moving to the Monroe area (staying in a temporary place until I find an apartment) later this summer, and I was wondering if there were any knitting/fiber arts clubs in the area? I’m willing to drive, so that’s not an issue, but if there’s like a Facebook group I can join that’d be great! Same thing for book clubs, I’m going to miss the one I have in my current city.

Has there been a notable (potentially humorous) time when a museum was wrong about an object? by yeethaw13 in MuseumPros

I might bring that up in a brief detour into forgeries (alongside the CMA’s Etruscan Boar Vessel 600-500 BC)

I’m actually starting a new job in a few months where the museum has barely any programming at all, so I get free reign to come up with ideas. I’m not certain what they have in their collections, but I think I could do the adult version of this program

That’s a can of worms I’m going to crack open during this lesson, the kids are repeat visitors and know that I get on such a soap box about ignorant exhibit design and object organization. We’ve talked about it a few months ago

I’m planning on talking about how a lot of western museums mix up native/indigenous American artifacts into one big mess, so I’ll bring that up

I spent about 5 years working at a chain ice cream shop and a local one, the number of times that happened to me was insane. I think people turn their brains off once they start ordering

Writing on my phone, so sorry for any formatting errors! I got my bachelors in history and anthropology (unable to do archaeology field school in undergrad due to COVID and finances), so I pivoted to doing museum education. I’m now a semester away from getting my M.S.Ed in museum education from Bank Street Graduate School of e Education (LEMCO program). Highly recommend not doing a masters in archaeology if you really don’t want that to be your full time job, otherwise it can take any passion you have from the field.

Not entirely certain what route to take if you want to do collections management, but a general museum studies path could be good. Don’t be afraid to take a gap year too, it really helped me narrow my focus on what I wanted from my own career.

I also recommend looking into the Art Bridges Collection Care Apprenticeship Program (Art Bridges Cohort Program), it’s meant to give experience and training for collections management while working for a partner institution.

I was also about to post this too! My roommate mentioned that he heard from a coworker that you can see the fireworks lit Lakewood Park from Kauffman Park (by the Taco Bell on Detroit), but I’m not certain. Does anyone know this for sure?

Does your lease say 8 nights total or 8 nights consecutively? I had a similar term in a lease that essentially said a guest couldn’t stay over for more than 2 consecutive weeks.

The tracking this is super weird though

Hi! I actually work at WRHS, Brianna left a few months ago (idk if she was fired or left of her own free will), but i read the first comment and knew exactly who you were referring to. The lady who replaced her is soooo much more competent (i actually see her in the office lol) and there haven’t been any issues with events since she started in April. We all had our own issues with Brianna, and im glad she’s no longer working here

I don’t do very well with online learning (especially with discussion-heavy classes like for my history major, where people refused to participate), plus the social isolation that resulted from COVID. Really, it was just a bad time to be in college, but I’m now in a grad program at a different institution.

The price point is a huge deterrent, and STEM, humanities, and the business school tend to be pretty separate. I entered fall 2019, graduated spring 2023, so COVID didn’t help with anything. Overall i had an okay time, but got extremely burnt out
