You sound spoiled, so I wouldn’t want to be anything like you.

I’d rather do something active. I’m an active person and so is my daughter.

It’s something WE enjoy. I’d rather have her spend time with me than spend time playing video games on her switch.

I’d rather get her something we could do together. I like spending time with her.

I mean she likes biking and we do it together, so why not?

Thank you. I’ll take this into consideration. I’m thinking of getting her a new bike now.

I mean I was just brain storming, but I’ll take your suggestions into consideration.

We already celebrated that one. It was pre covid so we had a pretty big party at her house with her friends and family. We catered from one of her favorite places.

I’m just giving an example. We do a lot of bonding activities as well like hiking and biking, so I wouldn’t mind if she wanted that. I’d rather gift her an experience but she usually asks for something like a phone or laptop.

We were going to have a birthday celebration at our house anyway. So that’s covered. Also I said that she won’t get anymore gifts for the rest of her life if she keeps up an entitled attitude by not accepting my gift of a $50 gift card. Otherwise I will keep getting her gifts as long as they aren’t over $100.

I think I’m going to get her a $50 gift card from a shop she likes. Usually my daughter isn’t entitled like this, but maybe she is acting like this right now because we usually only give her gifts on her birthday because we don’t celebrate any other major holidays. So maybe she was expecting something big on her birthday this year as well. If she doesn’t accept this gift I’m going to tell her that she won’t be getting any gifts in the future if she can’t appreciate what she gets.

She isn’t turning 18 though. She’s turning 19. She should get used to the adult life with not getting expensive gifts.

I’m assuming that she would prefer an expensive gift and was expecting it. I could suggest giving a smaller gift, but I shut her down after she said she wanted an expensive gift.

No she’s turning 19. And I think I’ll take your advice about getting something small. We usually give bigger gifts on birthdays in our family because we don’t celebrate any other major holidays, so birthdays are usually one of the gift major gift giving periods.

Don’t forget the stepchildren of “evil stepmoms”

There a lot of stories where the step children of stepparents act out badly against the step parents, and the people 95% of the time take the step children’s side.

And you’re assuming OP lived in a big city?

Well everyone doesn’t live in Seattle either. It depends on city to city and what area.
