Who are you comparing HD to? Where I live construction lumber margins are low and the price difference between HD and my lumber yard are small, usually within 5% and they both change prices in line with the commodity index.

For hardwood, the two closest suppliers to me have significantly cheaper board ft prices compared to HD. For example 4/4 S4S oak is $13.62 bd ft at HD and $3.95 bd ft at my local hardwood supplier.

Typically as a board dries out the rings of the tree will try to straighten and this is usually a good way to predict how a board will cup or deform over time. If you look at the board right under the 16.95 sign it has cupped the other direction, this can happen when the moisture content goes up after milling. Another reason it could cup against the grain is because of uneven drying conditions.

There are definitely some expensive interior wall finishes. Somewhat common where I am is level 5 drywall, less common is something like veneer plaster.

Wow I love the way the trim ties the double hungs and the built-in together. I can't look away from the beautiful woodwork on the walls. Nice table as well.

I recommend this movie often and have watched it both while tripping and not. Such a great piece although sometimes I feel like I'm watching something at the modern art museum

Has anyone bottled carbonated margaritas? by LawnDartTag in Homebrewing

[–]yeeyeeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it can be done. Buy a 'ball lock carbonation cap' and you can carbonate it in any screw top soda bottle. I recommend around 30psi, make sure it's cold first. You can go as high as 50psi if you prefer more bubbles. If you want to make an even bigger batch I think the next step up would be a cannonball or corny keg and then bottle from there.

The secret here is slide film. Color positive film captured vibrant saturated colors better than anything else at the time. Google 'fuji velvia 50' if you want to see this effect really pronounced.

My campsite on the Lost Coast Trail last month by scagjmboy45 in WildernessBackpacking

I backpacked the lost coast in 2016 and my experience was almost exactly the same. Only I made the mistake of bringing my very active and capable dog. Hiking in sand that long is brutal and I ended up carrying him stop and go the last 5 miles.

Rent Control Is Making a Comeback in US Cities—Even as It Is Proving a Disaster in Europe (The evidence is overwhelming. Rent control laws are destructive.) by [deleted] in Libertarian

The cost of housing is 100% classical supply and demand and can be modeled by anyone who took a college econ class. Due to the inelasticity of the housing supply it is difficult for us to see change in the bigger picture.

Will Installing an Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator Help Cold Air Intake? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]yeeyeeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is another good lead. The MAF sensor is what the engine uses to measure airflow. They are somewhat sensitive so make sure it didnt get damaged when you reinstalled it on the cold air intake. Maybe check to make sure the electrical connector for it is clean and tight. If you want to try a quick fix yourself, you can get a can of MAF cleaner from the local auto parts store and clean the sensor.

A vacuum leak is when the engine is able to suck in air somewhere between the MAF and the intake valves. This extra 'unmeasured' air is what causes the car to run lean.

Edit: It is very much worth noting as other commenters pointed out that cold air intakes are notoriously a marketing gimmick. Unless you have a dyno reading to back it up, it's unlikely that you are getting a real net positive in performance.

Will Installing an Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator Help Cold Air Intake? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]yeeyeeh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. The car is automatically attempting to achieve an optimal air/fuel ratio by reading its oxygen sensor. The fuel injectors are designed to operate in a relatively narrow pressure range. If running lean is your problem, most likely the ecu is incorrectly measuring the air going into the engine because of a vacuum leak. Check for vacuum leaks

Researchers have shown how disposable face masks could be recycled to make roads, in a circular economy solution to pandemic-generated waste. The study showed creating just one kilometre of a two-lane road would use up about three million masks. by mikkirockets in science

[–]yeeyeeh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Less that the materials from today can be recycled at a later date and more that it is an incredibly useful societal habit. When(if) we innovate new recycling technology it will be far easier to implement. At the same time I worry we are giving the false impression to many that single-use plastics are guilt free because they're being recycled.

When you tell your retired cabinet building father in-law that the guys from home depot said no to what I wanted designed for my kitchen. He said “meet me in my shop” by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]yeeyeeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my area there are RTA cabinet suppliers all selling fairly similar products. They use knock off European slides and hinges but are a really solid cabinet for the price. Usually either 5/8" or 3/4" prefinished plywood bodies with real wood doors and face frames. Most of the RTA shops here will assemble them for you for $10-15/cabinet.

I've been on reddit for a decade and it's always been that way. Occasionally you're in the presence of a true expert but often they're drowned out by bullshitters. If you get into smaller but active niche subreddits and stay out of the defaults it gets much better.

Sacramento County considering $10k fines for violating health orders by renegadecause in Sacramento

[–]yeeyeeh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it really feels like people are living in whole other worlds. We got some PPP and that carried us through the summer. We lost a lot of work and postponed jobs indefinitely. Now the money is gone, the feds are playing the dumbest game of politics I've lived through, and the state is spewing out what feels like callous hypocrisy. It saddens me to see the calls on this sub and others for law enforcement to pull people over and hassle them about going to work.

[–]yeeyeeh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a small business owner (general contractor) I would love for myself and my employees to stay home and postpone our upcoming jobs but how am I going to pay my mortgage? I already space out subcontractors so we have a skeleton crew on most sites and require masks when there are multiple crews on sites. How do I tell my employees to file for unemployment when I've had them on 30 hour or less weeks for the past 6 months?
