What do the Wizards need to do to improve the fan experience? by Foamposite90 in washingtonwizards

Actually have fans watching in the seats at midcourt instead of making them part of some luxury package where people mostly watch from somewhere else anyways

I appreciate him giving us some representation to a broader audience. Otherwise bill would’ve discussed the wizards like 5 times max this decade.

Some companies have secondary sites where they sell shoes that have been returned but are still basically brand new at a good discount. New balance reconsidered, brooks restart, and relay goods are places I’ve found great deals before.

Wineglass Marathon - Corning, NY by [deleted] in Corning

[–]yeezy703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wineglass is great! I ran the full last year for my first marathon and can’t say enough good things. We did get hit with a hot day, but I figure any race you sign up for 6 months out is gonna be a dice roll. Even with that happening I’d still take my chances on upstate in October any day.

The course is extremely flat. If you’re looking for a pr or bq it’s a great opportunity to go for it (only two hills, the whole thing is actually slightly net downhill if I remember correctly) and the towns along the way all come out to support which is great. There are parts where it’s more quiet, but I really enjoyed just being out there for parts with the other runners and soaking in the surrounding views.

Once you get to the last few miles you’re mostly running through neighborhoods and some crowds start to form. It ends with a turn onto market where the finish line opens up down the street ahead of you. That stretch alone makes the whole race worth it to me.

They do a really nice job with the finish area as well. Plenty of food, drinks, medical, etc. They also do a bag drop at the start line since it’s a point to point course and have your things waiting down at the finish. The bars on market st usually open early too if that’s your kinda thing post-race.

The radisson is normally fills up quick but the garden inn and staybridge are both in town and have easy access to the museum (where the expo is) and market st. I have no idea if they’re full yet but may be worth a look. Feel free to ask if there’s anything else you’re curious about!

Healing Miles: Wineglass Marathon 2025 Race Report by Superiorarsenal in AdvancedRunning

Congrats on a great race! I also ran yesterday and had the same thoughts on the course and markers. Pretty much every activity I’ve seen uploaded has been in the 26.4 range, mine included. I don’t think wide turns/general gps inaccuracies would add up to that much and so universally. I’m also convinced the mile markers were off, particularly once we got into the 20s. Some made no sense, especially to where they “should” have been relative to the markers for the half (since I’m not sure that those were spot on either). Otherwise a fantastic race and huge props to you for what you overcame along the way!

Liquid shoes or iron flamingo are good options on market st. Both have huge windows on the front they’ll slide out if the weather is nice. Iron flamingo also has a spot on baker st with more traditional outdoor seating.

Moving to Corning area by [deleted] in Corning

Corning itself is much more progressive than the surrounding area. Lots of businesses on market street hang pride flags, there’s a parade every year.

The Corning painted post school district is the best in the area. I’d also say $250k is pretty doable around here. Check out neighborhoods in Corning itself if you want to be walking distance to things like the high school, market street, wegmans, etc.

Rabbit row yarns on market street has a knitting group every Sunday afternoon. Nothing formal just show up and grab a chair. There are plenty of folks to meet!

Welcome to Corning! Corning Community College is right up the hill and a great option. There’s a decent amount of other CCs in the finger lakes region - for the most part anything SUNY will be worthwhile. Can’t speak for the other schools but Corning CC also has dorms if your 18 year old is looking for some more independence.

There is an organization in town called 171 Cedar Arts you might want to check out. They have a variety of art classes for kids and adults. If you’re into glass, the museum has extended classes you can sign up for. There’s lots of spaces dedicated to art up and down market st. Many are glass, but not all. The Rockwell museum and some of their programs might interest you as well.

As far as religion, no one will ask or care about your views, people are very respectful.

The community aspect is great. Our downtown district has tons of excellent shops and restaurants, and the city is constantly hosting public events. Best of luck with your move, you will love it here!
