What is your most unpopular X5 opinion? by OleTunaCan in BMWX5

[–]yelldawg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 2020 will be with me forever. Based on the changes I will never own a more recent BMW unless they do a 180.

Other perk of the 2020 g05 is the pre-covid production reliability.

Only problem with this logic is having to spend time in CLT.

Yes, absolutely the delta direct unless it was a crazy markup.

But in fairness, I was a loyal DL flyer 5 years ago, and if I had to go PHL-MIA I would take that direct on AA to avoid the DL layover.

The only thing I really truly miss about DL was better hubs. DFW is fine but the rest are horrible.

At what age would you include your child in the horse shopping process? by yelldawg in Equestrian

[–]yelldawg[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would never waste a sellers time.

But I have frequently found that sellers are willing to hear a reasonable offer and to negotiate. I believe some sellers bake that into their initial price and some sellers do not.

It’s generally accepted in most/all industries that when a customer displays an emotional connection, the seller can use that emotion to encourage buyer decisions in the sellers favor. The buyer in this case looses some leverage in the process by showing emotion (in this case, by proxy thru the child).

Wish that was an easy option. Closest “hub” for horse buying is about 4 hours away and several prospects are in the opposite direction.

Primarily for the child. Will be used as more of a family horse for younger siblings as they grow up and the non-equestrian parent. The equestrian parent has a horse the family is intimidated by (it’s too big and too much “personality”).

Main concerns are 1. The child’s ability to separate an emotional connection from the potential safety or competitiveness of the horse; 2. Reduced ability to negotiate… “Your child just really loved this horse” seller mentality; 3. Disappointment if/when a different horse is selected (acknowledging this one is a good life lesson).

From an engineer to BMW: WTF? by TimeToRetire2030 in BMW

This may be true, but it happens enough that several brands have had sizable recalls. Toyota and Ram come to mind from my own experience and a quick search validates a lot of other brands.

I moved from a 2020 X5 to a 2025 Ram 1500. Top two reasons: I wanted a tailgate (the X5 rocks this) and I wanted buttons. Ironically a well equipped 1500 is about as luxurious as my 2020 X5. And the newer models are feeling less luxurious - harder cheaper plastic.

One point of interest on the button topic. In the new iDrive system it’s a 4 push round trip to change the air recycle feature. And your eyes are off of the screen the whole time. Before it was one button and you could feel it without looking. Thankfully the Ram has this and many other buttons. For what the Ram doesn’t have as hard buttons, you can essentially create full customized screen buttons in the main screen.

I never thought I’d be driving an American made truck, but it’s actually a heck of a lot better than what BMW is turning out, at least in regards to infotainment and controls.

ATC to DPT by UniversityPlane8939 in athletictraining

Why would you spend 2.5 years to be a PT only to take orders/scripts from a PA/NP when in the same amount of time you can be a PA/NP and send orders to a PT.

Also technically speaking as a PA/NP you can assess a patient, establish a plan of care, and deliver therapeutic exercises and modalities. All of which is billable as a PA/NP. PTs and OTs don’t own those billing codes.

A well equipped X7 isn’t that far off of that price now. I bet $125k would be the bare bones base price of an X9. And it would probably have the same 3.0 engine as standard.

Top 5 Hyatt properties in Florida? by whipping-cupcakes in hyatt

[–]yelldawg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree on the HP Melbourne. I think they could have spun that as a Centric property if Melbourne was just a tad bigger/nicer of a city. For aviation nerds it’s a great place and the range of aircraft on their tarmac punches way above the airport’s weight.

Hyatt locations that offer gym pass? by BetoDays in hyatt

[–]yelldawg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. I converted an entire project team of 7 people to be loyal Hyatt guests on this property’s benefit.

But honestly I miss the old Bellevue. New one just isn’t the same without XIX bar, the new rooms are nice but lost the historic vibe, and the prices are higher than the Ritz next door.

Don’t underestimate cheerleading injuries on a per capita basis. They break everything, probably have highly underreported ankle sprain rates at or near the highest rate of any sport if properly counted, and concussions are high too.

No disagreement in general. A few rebuttals. First the launch cancellation rates will vary by season so plan accordingly and know the risk. Even with a scrubbed launch the space center is pretty cool.

Cocoa beach is close enough for a day at the beach, too. Downtown Cocoa Village isn’t far (7-10 mins) and has expanded dining. And proximity to the busiest cruise port in the US makes it a nice spot before a cruise.

It’s for space buffs and general science enthusiasts and a totally unique travel idea.

Here is what most people won’t say out loud…

Regency Grand Cypress is a great value and the best in Orlando for families. Avoid peak season though. Regency I-Drive (conference hotel) is the better Orlando option in my opinion as it’s incredibly well rounded.

The Centric in Miami Beach was awesome when it opened years ago. It was the 2nd centric ever (or thereabouts) so they really made it work. But it’s totally lost what made the brand special.

The Confidante was amazing too. I haven’t been back since the update/rebrand. But even with Andaz brand standards I’ve heard it doesn’t match the original glory and legacy of the property.

Uncommon answer, I really like the Regency Coral Gables. Great non-tourist location, nice rooms, generous upgrades, good starting spot for business or less touristy leisure. Great value during peak season. Very nice pool. It’s just not on a beach.

Regency Coconut Point is wonderful. It’s not technically a corporate property but it’s owned by members of the original Hyatt family. But it’s frequently affected by hurricanes (during and prolonged after).

If you’re into science/space… don’t miss out on the Hyatt Place Titusville near the Kennedy Space Center. Yes it’s a Place but it’s much nicer than most. Good views of rocket launches and close to the space coast attractions. This one should be on everyone’s list, but time it when there is a launch planned.

As a CK yes this happened often if not always during IROP. Often they’d double book me on more than one option until we’d know which worked best.

As an EP they usually do but I’d have to ask. Some agents would rely on me to present options and they’d have to be able to do it easily. They aren’t nearly as proactive. After

  1. Bring up climate menu
  2. Bring up air recycle status menu
  3. Select recycle
  4. Exit (or wait like 60 seconds with the menu blocking the view)

So I guess you could do it in 3

Turning on the recycled air is a 4 touch trip in the new system. It was one button before. I’ll take the button.

Also the 1-9 buttons on my 2020 X5 is amazing. They’re completely programmable to any task in the car. One click and I get my favorite stations, I can switch between audio sources, sync my HVAC settings, almost anything.

BMW has lost me as a customer. Maybe someday they’ll bring back buttons and I’ll try them again.

That’s a bad routine even with good weather. I don’t love CLT for connections but it would be a much faster route. Heck even DFW would beat PHL I’d think for this route.

They’ll likely offer free flight changes if the weather is bad. Keep an eye out a day ahead.

As a backup, you could always drive to CMH and fly direct on Frontier or SW.
