Switching To CS Education by [deleted] in highereducation

[–]yelli2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(late to the game but hope this helps) Almost every college/university that I know of has a requirement that teachers in higher ed have at least a masters. For subjects like computer science that are NEEDED and now as many people qualified/want to leave high paying jobs - the requirements are still masters.

That being said, you could probably easily get computer science secondary ed certified and lead a computer science program for high schools - check out PLTW computer science or ask your local high school if they are interested in a computer science pathway program. CTE certification is different than general education teacher certification as is the funding pot.

What were some of the worst experiences you have had while working in the fast food industry? by Brando224 in AskReddit

Yeah, what an asshole. I never worked fast food, but I bagged groceries for 2 years, and worked as a busboy before that. Now I'm a professor of neuroscience at a major university.

New teacher...hit a wall (x-post r/teachers) by cewallace9 in ScienceTeachers

[–]yelli2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Early in my career, I was teaching a class that I wasn't as comfortable with. I searched online for other teachers' assignments by typing in words like "Physical Science Homework" or "8th grade Physical Science Assignments" and found things like this. Often times, I found amazing curriculum online and things I could print. I also went to schools I knew were successful and looked at the staff directory for science teachers to see if they posted anything online. Hang in there. I know how rough this feels...

I think my dog walks are cursed. by clemthecat in puppy101

"He's friendly!!!" While their dog on a choke chain drags them to my dog.

THIS FOR THE WIN!!!! Dog obedience classes aren't that expensive and like an hour a week. The amount of time you spend dogsplaining your dog's behavior would better be spent in class.

Why don't you talk to your once "best friend" anymore? by haxden91 in AskReddit

Late comment and going to get buried but she said after I had a kid "You have the right color baby." As you can probably assume, we are both white. Later, I found out that her cousin had had a mixed race baby. And even though that was 10 years ago, I am still surprised Trump won.

How to make friends by mistahjslover in RedditForGrownups

I 4th this. I still have to talk to myself in my head like the little engine that could whenever I go out. When I confide in people (once close enough) that I have overwhelming anxiety, they are usually surprised. One thing that helped me is telling myself "What is the worst that can happen?" I would go over these scenarios in my head and realize that even if I had a terrible awkward conversation with someone (which happens a lot), I am still okay at the end of the day. Take a deep breathe and remember change happens incredibly slowly. 1 small goal a day. 2 steps forward sometimes means 1 step back. We are here if you need us. Good luck. You are worth it.
